If the Tories don't take him back Carswell would probably lose as an independent now, especially if it's a 3 way fight between him, UKIP and the Tories. The Tories slashed his majority in 2015.

Not sure about that - he's very popular locally because he does something many MPs don't... He helps constituents with issues.

Not enough, particularly given he and UKIP have made such a hash of his defection.

I've loved the irony of a former City trader and Dulwich College alumni calling Carswell "posh".

Apparently Nigel didn't want to become a Lord as it would have meant giving up his MEP salary.....

Let's face it - he didn't really care about the politics of this or the end result. He spotted an opportunity to get his nose firmly in that trough and has been playing the game ever since. To continue to take money from an organisation you claim to oppose would appear to be more than a little hypocritical and opportunistic.

It wouldn't have been so bad if he'd have at least attempted to perform his function as an MEP, but he couldn't even dignify his election to the role by turning up most of the time.

If he loved his MEP salary so much then he's shot himself in the foot by making himself redundant via a referendum. Hardly the actions of a man desperate to cling on to his job.

His USP was the exit referendum. It was his only hope of being elected. He still has 2 more years of that salary to draw, though.

20 years is a fair old career for anyone, though - he'll be happy to retire on his MEP pension - giving him a total Government & EU subsidised pension of £77k / year. Plus, of course, the 'parachute' payment for anyone who leaves the European Parliament.

But why do you think he's currently felating Trump? - he's hoping for a nice little earner as a US immigrant.

Dear Douglas,

Could you let me know how your talk with Gavin Williamson went before Christmas? By phone if you prefer?

Good wishes

Malcolm

As promised, I did speak to the government Chief Whip.

Perhaps we might try angling to get Nigel an OBE next time round?

For services to headline writers?

An MBE, maybe?

Let's discuss...

Dear Douglas,

Let's speak at your convenience. Ring me?

Not sure an 'Other Buggers' Efforts' quite hits the spot for Nige........?!

As for his MEP salary;

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, Ukip’s former leader, initially tried to organise a peerage for Mr Farage, backed by Ukip peer Lord Willoughby de Broke, last July in the wake of the EU referendum.

But these plans were dropped when the pair realised Mr Farage would have to resign as an MEP first before being allowed to accept the peerage.
My bold.

So, I'd say that dear leader wants to hang on to the 'gravy train' for as long as possible.

The only way that they could top up the entertainment value is to elect Helmer as a new leader. Needless to say, I'd fully support his candidacy.

And he's different from the Kinnock's? What was it they 'earnt' in 10 years after that famous Sun headline: 'last one to leave the country don't forget to switch the lights off'? We told them basically to f off because we didn't want didn't like them. The good old gravy train EU opened their arms to this couple and in just 10 years they troughed it of not a few thousands like Farage gets, but ...£10 MILLION! And they're still at it, with Mrs Kinnock getting even more. Politicians eh?
Oh, and naturally son Steven has his nose firmly in the same trough.
One thing in Farage's favour, without him there would have been NO referendum. That's a fact.
Camoron would never have given one without the interference of Farage and UKIP. The only problem for Camaron, and many others, was they never envisaged the very people who put them where they were, voting exactly the opposite of what they believed would happen.

Hey, come on Leagues (I still forget your alias from past times, what was it?).
UKIP are history.
Even I can live with that now.
Why can't you?
It was you who said it. An age ago.

Forget the man. He's done his job. For a lot of us!

So, it's fine for good old Nige to milk the system (which he has used to his own political and financial benefit, regardless of what he fronted in public) - because others have also milked it?

Isn't that like saying that Stalin was a top chap, because Hitler was worse?

You have it wrong, he milked the system to carry out a job, a one he carried out perfectly, even you must see the funny side of it, getting paid by the EU to destroy it.

The new party will be call "Misanthropes United Command Kingdom" or MUCK for short.

They're gonna have a great time, it's going to be so good, I can't tell you how good it's going to be.
