That fine seems very unnecessary and spiteful, I suppose all British employees will now need more extensive background checks.
What's the problem with that? It only takes upwards of six months and at no time during the process does anyone attempt to actually physically ID you! but Experia can and does say No!

Signed.

Renouncing US citizenship is a complete bag of worms but he should have applied for a UK passport a while ago.

It's the new "points based system". You point at someone and say - "get the fk out"

By actually *reading* around the story we see this quote : "Mr Jordan was told in 2007 of the need to formalise his stay in the UK by providing evidence to support his claim of long term residency. He was also advised in writing on three occasions what level of evidence is required but he has still failed to provide it.”

So, the story has gone from "Home Office kicking out legit English geezer" to "bloke from Manchester told to fill out some forms, declines to do so, so is threatened with deportation".

I'm sure that he could have completed this paperwork at some time over the last 8 years?

Genius. So the 6,590 petitioners are 'knuckle dragging racists'?

Utterly amazing statement!
Well its your statement.
What?
Nobody, apart from you, has stated that the "6,590 petitioners are knuckle dragging racists".

Therefore, it's your statement.

He could. He's been either lazy, or stupid, or both. But for some it appears easier to run around like Chicken Little damning our Govt for following the rules.

A little tip - don't believe everything you read in people's profiles. There appear to be a high proportion of Walter Mitty type characters on here - eg there's a statistician pretending to be a multiple business owner for example biggrin

I'm a beancounter.

...rules that they introduced to appease the same type of people moaning about deporting the wrong kind of immigrant now.

with respect, why should he have to?

he's from UK parents, lived here since 3, what possible bullst paperwork is required to explain this?

people are more important than a bit of paper FFS, why 8 years ago did the home office not just sort this out? it must be obvious from his school history, working history, etc.

the system is supposed to work for the people, not the other way round.

Why should he have to prove he can stay here? I'm guessing it's because he's registered as a US citizen and not a British one. The Home Office could of course just take his word for it, but that's not quite the same as having documentary evidence is it?

Perhaps the documentary evidence they need *is* stuff like payslips, list of schools attended etc etc. You know, the stuff that this guy didn't provide for 8 years.

It is working for the people, i.e. me & you. It's stopping people from living here that have no right to. I'm amazed that this took 8 years before threatening to deport him.
