Should England's money be spent in Scotland?
Discussion
So did Norway.
They have a national debt easily the size of the oil fund. Seems mental to have the cash in the bank earning next to nothing whilst paying interest on a debt...
Plus of course they have stonkingly high tax rates, something we've never been too keen on.
Comparing what Norway has done (or Qatar or the UAE) with the UK is silly. The cultures and structures are just too different.

The money has long since been spent...and then some more. Unlike our friends in Norway we embraced greed.
Have you ever heard of a thing called Maths? The UK has so far extracted 40Bn barrels of oil. I haven't got time to find the exact number for Norway now. It's a bit higher, but not really enough for it to matter for the purposes of this discussion.
Norway has a population of 5 million people. The UK has a population of around 64 million.
In other words, the Norwegians have had more than 12 times as much oil reveue per capita as we have, and that's before we even begin to look at Gas, where they massively outstrip our reserves.
Your claim that we've embraced greed compared to the Norwegians is like saying a family of twelve is greedier than a single person because they've finished a dozen donuts between them but the single person has only eaten six.

With us being a multicultural society these days then should we not embrace other ways of thinking etc and make things work better as opposed to ploughing on the way we always have done?
Sounds like a planLets stop giving money to the feckless

What has that got to do with being multicultural?!Absolutely we should constantly be trying to think of new ways to make things better, but only if they are actually expected to make things better and not just somebody's hunch it might work in spite of the evidence to the contrary, which seems to be the SNP way.

We could, yes.Of course we've already tried Monarchial dictatorships, privileged sufferage etc., so perhaps the Qatar/UAE approach isn't worthwhile.
As for high taxation, an oil fund and an equivalent debt, well we could indeed give that a go. If people want it, they'll vote for it. They're not.

Living in the north west - it seems apparent we need some of this money, the place is falling apart - driving to work avoiding potholes is very tiring.
Same in the south east I shall not be complaining about the state of Suffolk roads for quite some time...
