Well his father s Scottish gentry and his mother is swiss from french speaking Switzerland. I never met a black person living in the canton (Vaud) that she comes from.

Having a black bond just doesn't work, his back story would be shot
If you're going to get obsessive about the Bond back story, then given that his 'authorised biography' gives his birth date as 11th November 1920, presumably you're upset he isn't portrayed by a 94 year old actor?

Maybe you're right! I'm imagining Freeman wouldn't do quite as much running and jumping as Craig though. #notracistjustage

I'd like to think if the casters, censors or decision makers-that-be do make a black Bond, he'd also have to tick all of the other boxes to keep everybody happy. ie no killing, no spying and certainly no sexual tendencies towards women. Probably should drive an electric car, too. That's if he's allowed to drive.

And given the ancestry, surely a good Sean replacement given his action thriller credentials.

Unfortunately it would lead to a lot of audience confusion on account of the fact she looks like Oddjob's mum hehe

There would be no confusion. smile

How could there be? She died over 3 years ago, and old Harold Sakata was only 62 when passed away in the early 80s.

Great film Goldfinger. Great times. Harold a great actor (and wrestler). At least there was none of the bloody pc nonsense.

Details,

Okay, to please your pedantry over the minor detail of her being dead:

Idris Elba playing Etta James playing James Bond.

So .... have given some more thought to the women named James thing .... I must admit that it’s difficult to imagine Idris Elba having the correct acting skills to be Sally ....

Really doesn't work with a black guy does it. PC nonsense.
There's no reason why Bond's dad couldn't have married a black woman and had a son who was predominately black. And it would still be his ancestral home.

I quite enjoy most Bond films but they are hardly grounded in realism, so they could have an Inuit Bond for all I care.

Cucumber patch trying to avoid saying "Black", now Moore trying to avoid saying "White".

I think we should frogmarch the Guardian readership off Dover cliffs and go back to saying what we mean.

Personally I think JB can be played by any race any gender, However Roger Moore is entitled to his opinion without making him racist
I agree. The only thing that marks out JB in moveidom is his Britishness. JB has moved on from the 60s. Idris would make a decent Bond, better than a lot of possibles out there.

Fleming gace JB a Scottish parent due to his liking of Connery as the film character. A nice little bit of retro-fixing. It can be done with any character, though it not necessarily need to be. If one knows history.

Or adoption, or whatever. With the right actor, and good writing/direction/whathaveyou as with anything, you could have almost any Bond.

Or even have a seat given to an established prominent black person from the Napoleonic wars. As the links I posted show, there have been black people who achieved prominence in the UK centuries ago.

I always saw "James Bond" as more of a codename, the same as 'M' or 'Q'. It's not credible for all of the different Bond incarnations to be the same person, especially when everybody else around them has changed so radically. There's no reason why the next Bond couldn't be black.

I think I'd draw the line at a disabled Bond. But then again, he could have an Aston Martin wheelchair, with loads of cool gadgets and hidden weaponry in the frame.

A black Bond is fine with me - nowt wrong with him being adopted and in fact that rather fits in well with the personality etc.

I do have a problem with it being Idris Elba though...so not a Bond.
Go for the Chewy bloke with the unpronounceable name, he would make a cracking Bond.

So why not just kill off bond? The franchise is 007.

Throwaway all the James Bond baggage and reinvent 007 as a realistic current era intelligence operative who went to a comprehensive school and was ex SAS, not some rich toff naval commander.

The Bourne films forced them to change bond from cartoon gadgetry to the edgy Daniel Craig, you might as well finish the job and have someone who represents the post 9/11 world.

And they should probably stop giving every villain a disability.
