Aww come on, all the old films had stuff like this in it.

From the perfectly placed 'tipping' stone in Moonraker, to a fat man with a hat that cuts through iron bars simply by throwing it at them, to lasers and magnets in watches that would need a small power station to run them hehe

That was part of the Bond charm sorely lost these days.

Fencing with Madonna earlier in that movie was probably the worst for me.

That doesn't make me racist. It's just my vision of Bond!

After all, why not do a movie about Mandela or Muhammed Ali and cast a white man! After all, we have to be fair, right?!
Because James Bond is real and the other two are fictional?

When Bond becomes CGI, one knows it's reached it's lowest point.

Bond isn't about stunts for me...but as an opening visual, they are exciting.
Has this been bettered?

Great title track as well.
Always wondered how he got his skis off.

It's not his fault there are so few black, fictional cultural icons!

Yeah they'd be daft. It'd be more like having a black Snow White.

Dear god, it's actually worse than I remember it. Has to be one of the worst moments in CGI history.

I don't think this was CGI, but it gets the same cheese factor.

There is absolutely no good reason why James Bond could not be played by an actor such as Idris Elba; other than some outdated and racist belief that a character portraying the British Secret Service cannot be non-White.
Schoolboy error, easy mistake to make.
You're confusing "*any* character portraying British Secret Service" with *this* character. Bond was written alas a white British character full stop.
Not getting a black actor to play a white character does not make anyone racist. In fact forcing film makers to use a black actor for a white character is arguably racist. You're so inferior, here let me - a white middle class person in media - ignore your talent or lack of and get you a role as a white person.

its not that a person in BSS can't be non-white or that a black actor can't play a character in the BSS but James Bond is a white character.

What? It's fiction, right? So the guy playing the recently freed slave doesn't need to be black.
Or are you racist and think only black actors can play "black roles"
Imagine the uproar that would cause, could even have an entire slave ship full of white prisoners putting on fake accents and singing dem songs.
my God, it'd be like Twickenham when England are at home in the 6 Nations

Were there a lot of white slaves in 19th century America? If so then you have a point.
Was James Bond black? No? Then you've just made mine.

Yes, and the writings of Bond films have never strayed from the original books. rolleyes

And if you're such a devotee of Fleming, I'd hope you could spell his name correctly!

Ffs, what's wrong with people. Imho, Bond needs to be a rather well spoken, sophisticated British man. That's it. I don't care what colour he is. Danny Dyer could never play Bond, but Don Warrington when he was younger could have.
True, but the character has remained the same.
I'm no devotee, but one thing that I know - even as a non-devotee of Fleming is that Bond was white.

Danny Dyer could never play anyone other than Danny Dyer and sometimes he struggles with that

It's a perfectly reasonable idea that the colour of someone's skin is irrelevant to their ability to play a role - but you can't then pick and choose which roles the rule applies to.

It's interesting that someone suggested Colin Salmon who appeared in James Bond films in a different role.

It would be no good having a black Bond. Anecdotally factually speaking, the token black in a movie usually gets whacked in the first scene.
hehe
Biggest chuckle of the thread. I wouldn't want a black Bond ending up in the Walking Dead.

Bond is white. Bond has history. He could be played by a black person, but that would be kind of stupid as he's supposed to be an incognito spy.
If he's incognito, how come he jumped off a mountain with a fking huge union jack parachute? Not exactly wise for a spy? And why attract attention to yourself by driving an Aston or a Lotus. Surely he should be in a Focus 1.6 Diesel.
Or maybe the writers are allowed to use artistic licence?

Well, apart from them being REAL PEOPLE, nothing at all smile
Some people on here are having real trouble with the factual/fictional divide. This could turn into another God debate!
