After all, why not do a movie about Mandela or Muhammed Ali and cast a white man! After all, we have to be fair, right?!
Well, apart from them being REAL PEOPLE, nothing at all TwigtheWonderkid said:

Bond is white. Bond has history. He could be played by a black person, but that would be kind of stupid as he's supposed to be an incognito spy.
If he's incognito, how come he jumped off a mountain with a fking huge union jack parachute? Not exactly wise for a spy? And why attract attention to yourself by driving an Aston or a Lotus. Surely he should be in a Focus 1.6 Diesel.Or maybe the writers are allowed to use artistic licence?

The name's Bond, James Bond
I know
What?...How?
It's easy - I was told to look for the only coloured bloke.
Coloured??? Seriously. You do know 1973 has finished.I know

He used the phrase, publically, 2 weeks ago, and I'd wager his opinion on the matter carries a fkload more weight and influence. In fact he's used the phrase in every speech I've ever heard him make.

Or is it OK because it's "their" word?

True, but the character has remained the same.
I'm no devotee, but one thing that I know - even as a non-devotee of Fleming is that Bond was white.
Danny Dyer could never play anyone other than Danny Dyer and sometimes he struggles with that
Really? Late era Roger Moore is exactly the same character as Dalton or Craig's Bond? Or the same as the books?I'm no devotee, but one thing that I know - even as a non-devotee of Fleming is that Bond was white.
Danny Dyer could never play anyone other than Danny Dyer and sometimes he struggles with that
Basically he just needs to be a posh seeming secret agent who's a bit handy and gets on well with the ladies. The idea that he needs to be white to somehow preserve the character seems daft to me.

Some people on here are having real trouble with the factual/fictional divide. This could turn into another God debate!
Several fictional black characters have been suggested already - but strangely these posts keep getting ignored by the self righteous who instead seem to prefer to pick up on the few posts who have mentioned real people. turbobloke said:

Colour is irrelevant to Bond as long as the actor can carry off "Englishness". Given that we've had a Scot, an Ozzy, and an Irishman represent "Englishness" so far, I think colour is irrelevant.
Quite. Skin colour utterly irrelevant. One can argue the merits of specific actors but being 'white' is not a quintessential aspect of Bond.
