One man's proxy army to fight a soft war is another mans terrorist, until they turn on you and become a terrorist for you too hehe

Rambo 3 and Spies Like Us cover that same element quite nicely too. Yay, they're our friends because they don't like communists, but soon to be hatred of capitalists too hehe

I'm not sure I remember the next one too well, but recollections are a better 'Bond girl' in this one, a man going down some kinda cocaine chipper, a lorry doing a balancing act while driving along, and Felix being eaten by a shark.

Rambo 3 was in my mind as well. biggrin
The next one is brilliant. I referenced it the other day, the last decent bad guy before the reboot, charismatic, like Roper from that BBC thing. It's also the first time (I think, that Bond goes proper rogue).
It was also Desmond Llewelyn's favourite Bond, because he got to do far more in it. PLus it has a solid role for the girl too.

I think the new James bond should be played by a female Muslim who wears burkas, burkinis & has an personal hygiene issue whereby she smells of wet dog.

I agree. Last saw it on release, 1987. Timothy Dalton was a good Bond and is the closest in looks to Ian Fleming's description in the books.

He delivered a few one liner Roger Moore type quips, but I thought that Maryam D'abo was a weak Bond girl.

But overall a good movie. Four out of five stars.

I couldn't get on with Dalton although he is a great actor. Casino Royale felt like an up market Chuck Norris flick the first time I saw it, and the Ford product placement was painfully bad. But it's mellowed quite well.

I agree. I still like the 'silly' bits in the old Bonds. In this one, the bouncing on that netting at the back of the Hercules, and the Jeep bit... hilarious. But that and the quips were what made the old Bonds what they were.

How many on here can say they've watched every Bond 'on release'? I can.

Never had a real favourite as each new Bond moves it with the times (sometimes).
For a cinema togetherness, however, still can't beat Moore and that Union Jack parachute opening. I can still hear the whole cinema cheering in a spontaneous unison. That wouldn't work today, in fact it would probably get derided by the pc brigade.

As for the thread title, and Idris Elba. Not bound to be him. But Bond bound to be black at some point. Inevitable. Not because he should be, but because of a large rapidly growing clique of people who for some inexplicable reason, always think that they know best. Usually, they know bugger all.

I watched The spy who loved me in '77 at the cinema. I was just a nipper and it came hot on the heels of Star Wars for me. It was, and still is, an absolute epic. It was an odd time. Even though the economy and industry were going down the toilet, it was jubilee year, music was great (Never mind the bks, Rumours etc) - shame about Elvis though.

There might be a black Bond, it'll have less to do with 'PC' and more to do with the UK being different from 40 years ago. There are plenty of up and coming black actors, and UK today in the arts and across the board isn't monochrome. All the factors being even; producer, CDs, director, suits, it could go to anyone, but it'll go to whom they think they can work best with ultimately.

The best black chap would have been the guy who was cubed mid way through Resident Evil. I really did think he SHOULD have been Bond after Brosnan.

He didn't appear to think like many male actors do these days, that he has to hit the gym and have bulging triceps and pectoral muscles to play any part going.
At least Christian Bale can go fat, thin, and have muscles, to add variety to his appearance in roles suitable for his character.

COlin Salmon, I'm sure I read an interview where he thought he had a chance, what with being in the team so to speak. Tall, groomed, attitude, he was like Bronsnan, but black and athletic.
He used to be the stand-in when they'd audition actors.
