As said, in the books James Bond was born in 1920, so is a Bond under 90 also a no?

You do realise it's not real.

Colour is irrelevant to Bond as long as the actor can carry off "Englishness". Given that we've had a Scot, an Ozzy, and an Irishman represent "Englishness" so far, I think colour is irrelevant.

Not sure about Idris Elba though. I think he could carry off some Bond scenes but not all. He's a pretty big guy which makes him look a little less "scalpel" like and more sledgehammer. Doesn't Bond need to be both?

I'm not sure about other popular candidates either. Tom Hardy, no. Christian Bale, no. Paddy Considine, no. Clive Owen, no. Mark Strong, no.

Tom Hiddleston, maybe.

Michael Fassbender, absolutely.

And comparing the "black actor" argument with white actors playing MLK or Mandella... come on people..!!

Could be a way to go, to actually be faithful to the books.

The most laughable aspect is that Moore believes that Bond should be "English-English".

it's the throwing of the "R" word around by self satisfied twerps, highlighting others "flaws" to drown out the lack of a secure set of beliefs for themselves, that is actually more demeaning rather than supportive.

For me bond is bit "old establishment" type character, although as they've morphed him from the slightly cheesy/doesn't take himself all that seriously into this hard edgy borney person now I guess they'll go wherever they choose

I could see him as Bond and his skin colour doesn't exclude him in any way. He wouldn't be my first choice as I don't think he'd pull off the Englishness that a worldwide film going audience is expecting. I was going to say I think he'd make a great Bond villain, but then that would probably have someone upset thinking that thought process must mean mine is black equals crime and criminals and bad guys, so touchy is the subject.
So yes he could be black, but I can't think of anyone at the moment who would fit the role.

If you want a film about a black secret service agent, go ahead, but he is not James Bond

I get annoyed how the left jump on anyone who dare to speak out of turn with their views on race. Cumberbatch got it in the neck and now roger Moore.

Didn't see them standing up for white kids in Rotherham, in case they upset the local Pakistanis.
That's all the lefties live for.

If they can't use the power of PC to shout everyone else down over the most trivial things, they would just sit around all day getting bored with twiddling their fudge and moaning about the weather.

I don't think he does.

So if I've got this right....

... the next James Bond will be mixed race, 90 year old, transgender, lesbian, single mother of multiple children from different fathers as well as synthetic test tube variety, have one leg with 8 toes, one arm, be wheelchair bound, be undercover in a burka, has converted to Islam, yet displays the attributes of a quintessential Englishman, only smokes e-lights and drinks alcohol free Martinis, is vegan (halal veg), is not allowed to kill anyone, just convert them, while fighting the evil oil companies against man made climate change, is a double agent for the SNP, Sturgeon is the new M and Salmond moneypenny (renamed currencycent... or something similar)... Warwick Davis will play the new Felix Leiter and Jo Brand will be Q...

... Just to appease the PC brigade? Have I missed anything?. I think Idris Elba is a good actor, would make a good John Shaft if he could do the accent... or maybe he could play bond with Michael Jackson make up?

Also had a tip that Jeremy Clarkson is going to reinvent himself as an actor, he is tipped to be cast as an albino Kunte Kinte in the remake of Roots..

In the same way that Tom Cruise would make a good Martin Luther King?
James Bond is a made up person in a film series which has gone well beyond the scope of the books. He has been played by people of 4 (?) different nationalities, different hair colours, different eye colours, different accents.

Martin Luther King was a real-life black person.

Spot the difference.

I really dont understand this stuff now

I mean they call moore racist for suggesting bond should probably be a white guy, in keeping with the character yet I was in a department store yesterday and there is a make up brand called "black up" and no one bats an eye lid.

Do you know many women called James? hehe
Etta? hehe
Janine. Janine Bond.

Imagine the feminine outrage at a female james bond who goes round seducing the enemy in every film.

Let's not forget that Naomie Harris is the first black actress to have played Moneypenny.

I like her.

As others have suggested, where do you draw the line with the diverse variables?

Why not a Sikh Bond where he wears a turban?

What about his sexual orientation? Gay / bi-sexual.

Why able bodied? Why not in a wheel-chair?

How about a gender reassignment?

etc etc.

We have an instinctive image of Bond based on what's gone before.
