Fire in London

In essence I agree, and I'm all for greater efficiency, but in the case of firefighters in particular, there seems to be an argument that because a resource isn't being used it isn't needed.
I'm not sure I agree.
To me it's like saying I don't need to wear a seatbelt because I haven't had an accident in ages.
Quite right! Not needed until you need it and let's hope it isn't me that needs it when it's not there!I'm not sure I agree.

Latest update from LFB mentions that it's a gas leak that's fuelling it
From what I gather they can't just turn the gas off because it's only the pressure of the gas leaking out of the pipe that keeps the flames where they are. With gas leak fires there is a danger of the the flame travelling back up the reduced gas supply, when the pressure of the gas being leaked starts to drop, and the problem just moving to somewhere else.
No point putting it out to quickly, there's some decent OT rates as of tomorrow.https://twitter.com/bexy76/status/5836293631213649...

Ugh Camden council now saying that Kingsway (northbound) and the Strand Underpass will not reopen till June.
All the buses that normally go that way still being on lengthy diversions causes me grief every morning
Must have been some serious serious damage to weaken the road unless that was caused by the amount of water they were pouring in there, having washed everything away.

Could be, or could it be the rapid cooling of pumping cold water onto hot road causing it to stress and fracture? Ugh Camden council now saying that Kingsway (northbound) and the Strand Underpass will not reopen till June.

IT is causing traffic issues.
I cannot fathom the logic from TFL to keep the same number of buses running down those routes though. The whole of Aldwych is standstill with buses, they're not moving so why do we need 30 of the same bus sitting in a jam?

We always used to circumnavigate the Aldwych to get into my parking. I had more issues and run ins with bus drivers cutting in and out than the rest of the journey EVERY day!
I have generally stopped getting taxis on the end of Kingsway and always now walk for a few mins to get passed the bottle necks depending on direction.
It is truly a nightmare at the moment though.
And an awful lot of hi viz standing around looking down into holes - and some don't even bother to look as though they are paying attention
