I'm looking forward to the PH Armchair Bank Robbers/Heisters (not sure which is appropriate) analysing the theft and suggesting how they probably would have done it differently.

Some people taking a bit hit here, especially as the items which have been lifted probably don't exist.....

With suitable padding and a Gordon Brown mask walk in whilst open and demand the contents - easy-peasy.

As it was successful why would anyone have done it differently? smile
You're probably correct. I await the Security Analysts/Consultants to suggest ways of beefing up the protection against this happening again...

I could be missing something but how did they manage to abseil down the lift shaft. Would the lift not have blocked their path.
They came equipped to cut through thick steel vault doors. The thin walls of a lift would have been a doddle. From the movies, lifts seem to have an escape hatch on their tops so maybe that one did too.
Traditional lifts have motor rooms at roof level, these are often relatively insecure and can also provide shaft access/lift car control. You will note from watching 007 that access to the car itself can typically be gained via it's ceiling. Landing doors can be pulled apart from the shaft. Roof tops are often interconnected by fire escape routes/staircase at ground level.

To summarise it seems like an easy way of entry to an otherwise very secure premises....... anyway it wasn't me, I've no idea how to crack vaults/deposit boxes biggrin

when all said and done, what kind of place has such piss poor security?

I am sure they charge big money for their services, and I assume from this they will be sued the crap out of?

4 days with no alarms, and only discovered on return to work.

Even so it strikes me as odd that they didn't/don't have a daily visual inspection of the integrity of the vault. Especially on a weekend like last when (as appears to have been the case) the nerdowells had 4 days to do their thing.

As also said, we will never know what has been taken. There will almost certainly have been uninsurable items, as well as uninsured items. I suspect there will have been a few less 'questionable' items in there these days though after the Met's own heist on safety deposit companies a few years back wink

They probably spliced into the CCTV system and played some still video of an empty vault, whilst dancing over laser beams ....

Ah, now it makes sense. I thought lift hatches were just a Hollywood plot device. So they climbed in trough the hatch and took the lift down to basement level if it wasn't there already.

Clever.

I like the comments from the PH crime experts stating that no one knows what was stolen, it was all blood diamonds, guns and stolen gems, no one had insurance etc etc. hehe

Some of you watch far too many movies.

Don't they have insurance at these places ? Who would leave stuff in them otherwise ?
And obviously an inside job surely ?
