In no way condoning this theft, what's the betting that these chaps get heavier sentences than those traders caught in the foreign currency manipulation? Theft is theft, surely?
The rate manipulation isn't theft, but it'll be interesting to see the sentences the individual's receive. speedyman said:
How do a bunch of old boys absail down liftshafts and crawl through holes in walls without having to have a good lie down afterwards, I'd be knacked.
I doubt they committed the primary offence. They likely arranged it / handled the stolen items. This is fascinating. There are so many questions.
What led police to finding all of them in just 6 weeks? They weren't all actually at the premises.
How did they pull it off? They set off an alarm, which should be game over (but they got very lucky with the police not responding). So what measures did they take to try to disable or not set it off? You wouldn't go in there not knowing how to work around the alarm.
Why were they still sitting on all that stolen stuff?
They look like pretty normal guys, they just don't look like crooks! Interesting.

I would suggest they let the alarm go off, cleared out and waited to see what the response was.ie. they gambled (correctly) on the response being SFA.

3 of the raided properties are within 5 mins walk of me in enfield, cops have been guarding the places, so far resisted the temptation to bang on the car window with a "if you see him, ask him if he's done with my drill he borrowed" when I walk past.
The safety deposit company has gone bust - probably not a surprise.
