Pretty light punishment of 7 years just given.

I'd take a punt on a raid like that for the risk of just 7 years.

As burglary of a non dwelling premises carries a maximum of 10 years you have to wonder what you need to nick to get the full 10 years.

Indeed. You get two years for filming yourself popping some wheelies on a motorbike.

...and the fact I believe they pleaded guilty so therefore received a discount on the prison term.

I'd call that a nice little earner with further discount for good behavior and 2/3 of the booty still at large.

Michael Caine has said he'll do the film.

They better get their skates on.

With Basil gone there's an opportunity for a sequel.
Th film needs Michael Caine, Ian McShane, Michael Gambon, Albert Finney, and Jim Carter.

How can they be given a reduced sentence when they haven't given up the goods.

I'd risk it when I'm older for some free accommodation and a fantastic nest egg for my kids, grand kids.

conversely, people have got lesser time for killing somebody.

yes, it was a big job, but it was simply a burglary, they were not armed, they were not violent, nobody was assaulted/harmed, just had property stolen.

7 years for a burglar is pretty stiff.

It's not that bad when you consider they are repeat offenders, some of whom were involved in some of the biggest robberies ever; Brinks Mat, Security Express, Lloyds Bank

Dennis Waterman as senior plod investigating. Plus CGI of John Thaw lurking in the distance.

There will be a confiscation order, which if not adhered to will
lead to an extended sentence.

The difference is they got away with £14m (or would have done if they weren't stupid enough to get caught).

7 years is no deterrent for a £14m haul. I can see pensioners at Legions across the land planning raids.

They didn't know they were going to get 14 million, the sentencing is based on crimes committed, not the haul.

So if you were an experienced criminal that had tunnelled into a bank and opened safety deposit boxes would you have the nouse to take a few photos in case the bank or police did nothing about it?

Why wouldn't you also take some as 'protection' if caught and prosecuted?

Probably thought plod would do something on it.

We've probably not seen the tip of the iceberg on what saville smith & friends did and will never know the half of it.

So the pictures they allegedly had of censored and censored allegedly doing censored allegedly in the censored weren't allegedly enough to keep them out of jail this time so now apparently there was allegedly other stuff, allegedly? Hmmmmm.

Mind you, the film is quite good http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200465/?ref_=fn_al_tt...

So basically the plot of "the bank job" starring Jason Statham?

The Bank Job was based on that heist
