Am I missing something here?

Surely the machine to cut through the door would have been massive / heavy ?

Not really paying attention to this but have they said exactly how it was done and what was compromised yet?

No a former senior police officer has said that. Presumably one that likes the sound of his own voice because it's fairly obviously nonsense.

Not really..

Given how much time they had, it could be a smallish mag drill.

Or maybe they burned their way though...

Turning armchair sleuth for a moment I would have thought that the Holborn fire, if anything, might have caused a few twitchy sphincters with the robbers. The last thing they will have wanted I would expect was an unexpectedly high number of police and engineering staff in the locality going through ducts and tunnels, etc.

could have used a thermal lance given the time they had

but

if they had somebody with military/civilian explosives expertise they could have used shaped cutting charges?

20mm hole cutter and a hacksaw blade? Might need a couple of spare pilot drills.

I like the comments from the PH crime experts stating that no one knows what was stolen, it was all blood diamonds, guns and stolen gems, no one had insurance etc etc. hehe

Some of you watch far too many movies.
not watching movies

but from personal knowledge people put things in safe deposit boxes they wish to hide from 'public view'

probably be bearer bonds as well

Well I reckon it was done with a fishing rod through a keyhole and all they got was a massive collection of classic porn magazines.

Flying Squad detective giving a press conference right now and clearly stated the thieves used a Hilti DD350;

Time to buy Hilti shares, or maybe not.

So, will you still be congratulating them when your insurance premiums rise ? The real world isn't a 60s "caper" film, these are proper criminals who were presumably armed and ready to injure or kill so they could complete their theft.

I like to imagine them as well dressed blokes like the oceans films but cockney rather than American. Possibly even a gang made up of beautiful woman dressed in tight black outfits.

It's probably like inkjet printers, the basic tool doesn't cost that much, but the actual diamond bits you need for it are probably £10k each biggrin
