I have a feeling this is going to be a lot worse than we know now, communications in Nepal are very fragile even normally!

OH's sister was at the epicentre of the earth quake, thankfully after trying all morning we have got the she's safe phone call from her when she rang just over 90 mins ago.

She says its absolute bloody carnage over there at the moment.

Great news she's OK, sounds like a lot of people won't be as lucky.

Reports of 10 deaths, and 30 injured at Everest base camp, due to an avalanche triggered by the earthquake.

You would imagine that the death toll will be in the 1000s when all is said and done. Given the area is probably the most seismically hazardous region on Earth this was expected however it is still a tragedy.

Hopefully the international community will act quickly and offer whatever help it can to the survivors.

Bloody hell more than 970 dead so far and there have been deaths in India, Tibet, Bangladesh and Mount Everest. Nepal is now quite popular with tourists so I wouldn't be surprised if people from Briton are amoung the dead frown

RIP to all those killed so far but I have a bad feeling the number will rise massively, and with the airport said to be damaged help is going to be delayed

Must be terrifying going through a big earthquake. We had a small tremor here in Yorkshire about six years ago.About one in the morning something to do with fracking.

Woke me up not nice.Sorry to hear about so many people dead.

The roads outside of Kathmandu are just dirt tracks in most cases, these are carved out of hillsides, I think getting relief to the rural areas will be very challenging, if not impossible for some time!

Really feel for all those there.

Buildings and infrastructure just wont be up to it.

Been through a big one but nothing quite like what it will be there.

This is Arse - amazing country and lovely people.

No surprises though that lots of buildings have collapsed - they all seem to be made of mud and spit - and it's not going to be easy to get the rescue efforts where they're needed quickly, the roads (where there are some) are horrendous.

Got friends out there at the moment, they are registered on the Red Cross as missing, we are all checking the websites in case they register as "I'm Alive".

Can only echo Asterix's comment, beautiful country, amazing people. frown

You've probably already seen it but if they are on Facebook they send a check if they are in the affected area.

Yea thanks his family have posts on that and on Google's person finder.

He is only 25 and this is one of the few times he has been away on his own and the first time with friends. All 6 of them are currently unaccounted for.

Fingers crossed for them all and thoughts to everyone else who got the worst news.

Terrible stuff - I hope they're found safe and well with many others, this is a sad situation indeed.

Do you know where they would have been at the time of the quake?
