The kid was rioting for fk's sake, what should she have done?

"You've not let me down, you've let yourself down."

Maybe, just maybe, the 'mom's' readiness to 'whoop' her kid's ass has contributed to him thinking rioting is an ok thing to do??

I'm sure I'm wrong tho and the best answer is to meet violence with more violence.

Maybe, just maybe this mindless violence is a product of lazy parenting, parent's who take an active role however it manifests itself has to be better than doing cock all

Seems to have worked. What would you prefer she did? Send him to the naughty step to think about what he did?

and maybe Tony Martin ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Martin_%28farme... )
should have put on a brew for the burglars and discussed the matter with them as the kicked his head in and robbed him blind ?

no sometimes, action is required to get results.

take your wishy washy hand wringing over to mums net

Errr... Would I rather my kid be a convicted murderer, have the death of a young man on his/her conscience and a bounty on their head forcing them to live in hiding... Or... A caution for nicking a pair of Nikes in a riot. Hmmm... Quite the dilemma you have presented.

Wishy washy hand wringing indeed, sometimes these forums are so caricatured they fold back in on themselves.

indeed, arguments on both sides get far too extreme.

people accusing the mother of creating the entire riot because she gave some tough love to her son to get him out of the situation. its just ridiculous.

No, it's mainly the product of racial brutality by the local constabulary.

I don't know the exact events on this one but I have a friend who lives in Florida and works for Homeland security. He laughs when he see's British cop shows, they catch someone who generally shouts a lot kicks a bit but after two seconds is not struggling. He compares that in his very real experience, black and white criminals hardly ever come quietly and many times are high on drugs (PCP) seems to be the killer. He has seen 5 or 6 cops needed to subdue one person.

Clearly any one who is killed by the police who is unarmed needs to have justice, but burning the area is not that.

He would like cameras being mandatory, but already some activists have said it would be just like "running man" where the footage is altered to show the victim in a bad light.

It is sad that people do this and good on the Mother who sorted out her kid. He looked tough until he was taken under her control

Well done that woman. Also shows that he obviously had a decent upbringing.

"favorite mom" why does the Mail insist on using American spelling?

my take in someone else's words

When nonviolence is preached as an attempt to evade the repercussions of political brutality, it betrays itself. When nonviolence begins halfway through the war with the aggressor calling time out, it exposes itself as a ruse. When nonviolence is preached by the representatives of the state, while the state doles out heaps of violence to its citizens, it reveals itself to be a con. And none of this can mean that rioting or violence is "correct" or "wise," any more than a forest fire can be "correct" or "wise." Wisdom isn't the point tonight. Disrespect is. In this case, disrespect for the hollow law and failed order that so regularly disrespects the rioters themselves.
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/0...

Or flesh it out further http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news...

Cause riots don't happen in isolation, yes I know its easier to blame the idiots who riot but pretty much like all of life if you don't look at the whole picture you will never understand why st happens, of cause most people don't want to know, they just want to condemn

Oh and I'm not embarrassed by another persons actions, saddened yes, but how can I be embarrassed by something I have no control over

I cannot respond to that as I have no direct experience of it, do you? and if it is the case then why in this particular County?

ever had a "random" stop and search ?

ever had this happen every day on your way to or from collage?

ever continually been pulled over with the famous line "we've pulled you over because there have been lots of cars matching this description being stolen in the area" ... no matter what area you're in, its always the same line.

ever had a glove box full of 20+ producers to take into the police station to "prove" yourself an honest citizen.. again and again?

ever had to deal with that dull stupid nothing between the ears look when you kick off at the police pulling you over waving the afore mentioned fist full of producers at them demanding that they leave you alone?

...thought not.

this is the police trying to taunt you into doing something stupid so they can get to have some fun beating someone up a bit and giving them a criminal record so that they can have a good laugh at ruining your professional career before its even started.

so no, i have not been a victim of police brutality per-say, as i did not allow myself to fall into their obvious trap.
but i have been a victim of institutional racism and profiling, which is just as bad.

skipping out "the other guy" in a conversation speeds things up nicely as you always get the "right" answer to move things along hehe
