It isn't just a racial issue, but even moreso socio-economic. The poor and disadvantaged are traditionally targets for abuse in the States. The mentality that most Americans absorb subconsciously is that the "weak" deserve it.

As the economic situation continues to deteriorate, we will only see more of this.
I reread the Nick Hanauer article recently on wealth inequality and am beginning to come around to his way of thinking.

All 6 officers charged, one with murder, several with manslaughter. At last, a SA with balls.

It's a bit odd listening to Radio 4, these officers being charged in the news and Sir Bettison's comments about Hillsborough. Perhaps the tide has turned?

The list of charges including failing to help an injured detainee remind me of this case:

I should imagine the CCTV footage of what happened in that cell in October 2012 will be pretty harrowing when it's released.

Just a mentally ill person, not a black person so that's OK.

His poor mother had visibly aged in the last photo I saw of her.

This stuff about Sir Bettison talking about Hillsborough in a pub reminded me of a senior police officer shooting their mouth off in a roomful of people a few years ago. I made that incident aware to the IPCC. That officer has since been in the local press giving out awards and certificates of recognition. Perhaps I was supposed to be impressed? Perhaps they were playing to the crowd and got this member of the assembled masses wrong?

The Police force needs to be reformed with the theme of "serving the public" the central core of any policy.
the Police have little respect for the public is it any wonder very few people trust the police.
Bettison is the one who quickly put in for retirement as soon as he heard from his mates he would appear at the Inquiry,

I hope these charges are grounded in solid evidence. The defence lawyer has not minced his words: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-32561056

Does it make it harder to turn it into a race issue given three of the six officers are black?

You should do some research of trust / confidence surveys about the police. You'll find your "very few" is way off the mark / wrong. Here's one right in the middle of a large scandal, for example.

So? There are millions of interactions every week. These shape opinion more than a major historic event.

Geezer top left was the driver, he's the one charged with murder. Suggestion is he gave Mr Gray what is known as a "rough ride"....

Career criminal dies in the back of a paddy wagon - predictable riots, looting and general mayhem ensues. State prosecutor pronounces 6 cops guilty before the investigation has even begun.

25 year old New York plain-clothes cop succumbs to his injuries after being shot in the face by another career criminal - nobody bats a fking eyelid.
