Think it's more "tell people they must be fit and trim to go to the beach, not acceptable".

No, thats the excuse, women have always had self image neurotics, its nothing new. All thats new is that the lazy and gluttons wish to be accepted as normal. Make being blubbery the norm.

Fact is, peoples weight does vary, but don't intimidate those who go out their way , and have the frame to be slender, they should be admired, not decryed.

Apparently the ad has been censured over weight loss claims, or is that an excuse, one wonders?

"Tell people they must be fit and trim and go to the beach"

That's what you got from that advert?
That, I believe, is what the people who successfully complained to the ASA got from that advert.

I know what you mean. It's annoying because when I see a fat woman jogging, I want to cheer her on or give her a thumbs up but I suspect she'll think I was taking the piss. frown
At the last half marathon I did the person I respected most wasn't the guys doing it 1hr 30m, it was the bigger woman who jogged the whole way who did it in 2hrs 40m.

She's in my local park run as well. She bloody does it. Every bloody weekend and she is a lovely person.

At the last parkrun she got abused by a pedestrian. Cue about 20 sweaty men rounding on overweight middle aged man who though he could bully a woman.

sts me. When people are doing something for their health and well being either give them a smile, or leave them alone.

A smile and a nod means a lot. It did for me from other runners when I was puffing and panting my way to 40m 5kms. Now I feel I can give the smile and nod.
2 hours 40 is a bloody quick time.

The ban stems (apparently) from weight loss claims made in the ad , not body image displayed.

Just an excuse perhaps, possibly. Too many outraged lard arses possibly.

12 and a bit minutes a mile?

It's not that quick, is it?
Depends who you are - for some it would be bloody quick but for others it would be slow. Same as my 1:37 was quick for me but woukd be slow for others in my running club.

A 12:30 mile is not quick on its own but stringing 13 of them together is a great effort and to be admired.

Our club has enough good runners to be the men's Kent Grand Prix champions last year but everyone cheers on the club members at the back just as much as those at the front.

Ooh la la the Diet Coke's made you into a shift lifter.
In order for you to derive that conclusion, I can only think that you imagined my removing my t-shirt slowly. Pervert.

Of course metabolism has an effect on peoples weight or ability / inability to lose / gain weight. Your one-size fits all way of thinking is off kilter. It isn't just about fat, its about shape, height etc Therefore going to the gym more, eating less isn't going to make you 6ft tall with a slime 'frame' (see woman in the advert).

p.s I'm not talking about Mrs Murdoch, people in general.

I used to work with a girl who had a mahoosive arse, she was only 5ft tall and it looked completely disproportionate to the rest of her (which was slim). She played hockey, ate well, walked loads and went to the gym. Poor lass couldn't shift that rump though.
Can I have her number? She sounds great...

Metabolism is largely controlled by insulin and leptin, both which can largely be controlled through diet and exercise.

Just sayin'

Banned for the claims about the product rather than the perceived bad taste.

ASA said they were considering that aspect as well. Though I wrote them a drunken email a while back about some stty advert which made men out as complete idiots while a clever clogs woman had to step in and save the day. I got a reply back saying they agreed some might consider it distasteful but that was not grounds to ban an advert.
