Young bald politician publicly shows off his pretty blonde OH just before he's about to run for leader of the opposition. Has this ever happened before? smile

Ideology had bugger all to do with Labours catastrophe last night.
What about the mouthy social media users - by and large on the left side of Labour. How much are they influencing Labour policy?
the mouthy social media users have the same amount of influence as they did in the election, namely very little ,thankfully.
when a labour leader judges someone of the calibre of russell brand worthy of audience anyone with half a brain realise they are so far out of touch with reality they are not worthy of the position.who in their right mind thinks that a person who would call up an old man to gloat over sleeping with his grandaughter is worthy of anything but disdain.
the tag of metropolitan elite was never more appropriate when leveled at the clowns at the top of this labour party.they reaped exactly what they deserved at this election, it will be a long time ,if ever ,before they are electable again.

Dan Jarvis appears to be wearing a Rolex Submariner or Sea Dweller.

For PHers this could cause all sorts of confusion.

I really hope Dan Jarvis wins as he'd make a great opposition leader and he has a great back story, especially with his military background.

To be fair if you want to be at the top these days you generally have to be a career politician dont you - its not something you just randomly get into as a side job for 5 years (well not for those who want to devote their life to being at the forefront).

I agree with those who say that Labour needs a totally new fresh face.

They can't choose Chuka. It would be inadvisable to have a leader whose name most people aren't sure how to pronounce.

For the exact same reasons I hope he doesn't win.

But if he has a clear vision, we could have lots of Chuckle-Vision parody lines...

It probably should be Dan Jarvis, but this is the Labour Party were talking about. I can't imaging that a bunch of no-nothing Oxbridge PPE drones with zero life experience fancy being ordered around by a no-bullst, plain speaking type like Jarvis.

Despite all their lip service about equality, I can't see them going for Britain's Obama or any woman either. Tristan Hunt is clearly a Tory boy and must have signed up to Labour for some drunken university dare.

My money is on professional northerner, Andy Burnham. Rock on Tommy!

I said that as a Conservative voter, the Conversatives need a strong opposition to keep them honest.

Chuka reminds me of a mobile phone salesman or an estate agent, there is just something about him which is shifty and untrustworthy - a bit like Grant Shapps. I don't think he'll win the leadership contest.

An unknown female politician has just been announced on local radio news as a Labour leadership candidate.

Somebody is bound to know who the unknown is.

Dan Jarvis looks like he would good shadow foreign office / defence before becoming leader. Needs a little more experience but a good candidate and good to see someone with real military experience moving into politics.

Good opposition should test and improve the leadership of the party in power. We should relish strong party leadership of all parties.

Perhaps this is short sighted but I'd rather see another Ed Miliband as their leader which leaves them unelectable in 2020 rather than someone competent who will improve the fortunes of the party.

The upper chamber, public opinion, the media, judges and courts will keep the government on their toes - I'm not bothered if Labour are a shambles for the next few years.

I was thinking what a monumental task the Labour Party had, trying to come up with an entirely new approach that would appeal to people outside their core 30%, but then I realised that I was overcomplicating things. All Labour need to do is stick to class based politics, tax/spend/borrow socialist economics, and wait for the next recession to come along. And then make sure that in the following election their leader isn't a ginger idiot (1992) or seemingly reared by aliens (2015). Job done.
