Only good if it meant work was starting tomorrow rather the clusterfk of waiting for another 12 months.....We really make ourselves look a laughing stock from outside the UK in our Govt ineptitude regarding making positive decisions for the good of the country, rather their own personal re-election agenda's.....

My local council has diverted funds to mount a legal attack on the Government to oppose the expansion. Despite the borough having an overwhelming Conservative majority and is in the PMs constituency! This is going continue to be a hell of a battle. We really make ourselves look a laughing stock from outside the UK in our Govt ineptitude regarding making positive decisions for the good of the country, rather their own personal re-election agenda's.....
I'm not holding my breath for this moving quickly off the starting line yet.

Gatwick will have a second runway before Heathrow, just watch.I'm not holding my breath for this moving quickly off the starting line yet.
I think this decision is bad for a number of reasons, but it really sums up the British way of thinking, we kick the can down the road so much when it comes to things like this it is so frustrating. Why we don't think a bit further ahead and do something like Borrisisland (I'm not saying that was perfect). But expanding Heathrow feels very much like a bandaid solution. With all the economic worries on the horizon, it would have been prudent to look at a much bigger scheme involving integrated transport solutions.
I can see this being a very long and drawn out process even with todays decision, I wish we were a little more enterprising as a nation and did things that would stand the test of time a little better.

True to his word. Will BoJo lie down on a runway now? I somehow doubt it. I've always wondered why they didn't consider un-mothballing the old Greenham Common airbase.
It is only about 30 miles West of Heathrow, already there and could very quickly and comparitively cheaply provide two runways.
I'd look at it as a remote extension to Heathrow with some kind of hyperloop train to and fro from London, maybe an extension to the Heathrow Express and also easier to provide some kind of loop down off the M4/A34 for cars.
Just been onto Google earth to check, it is well worth a look.
Greenham Common is / has;
36 miles from Heathrow
Nothing much to knock down to build a few terminals there.
The existing but crumbling runway length is as long as Heathrow and a second could easily be added.
Only five miles South of the M4.
To me it looks like the common sense location to plonk a couple of runways, nice and central for access, virtually nothing for miles around compared to Heathrow. Should be cheaper and quicker, should.
Sadly common sense was sadly last seen in 1986 boarding a flight, from Heathrow, probably to somewhere in South America.

Another by-election!
One I can't see a Tory candidate winning, either.he says he might stand as in independent so has a decent chance of retaining his seat if his constituents support his stance.
HS2 I fear will be a white elephant, will go catastrophically over budget and despite supporting construction industries and job retention / creation in certain sectors through massive capital investment, will not reap the expected economic benefits.
HR3 will expand international travel, potentially tourism but likely to be london centric but will also increase domestic flight capacity - won't that impact on HS2 usage aswell???
