First speech in Parliament:

“I am the only 20 year old in the whole of the UK that the Chancellor is prepared to help with housing.” hehe

As an MP she probably gets a fair more help with her rent than other 20 year olds.

Pretty decent speech regardless of if you agree with her or not.

Ten times better than I'd have done 13 years ago.

I might not agree with some of her points but she speaks well and comes across well.

Her point was she was the only 20 year old to benefit because she is an MP! Keep up at the back....

As someone who detests everything SNP stand for - is agree she gave a well thought out and delivered speech which evidently wasn't just written for her instead she could draw on her own history.

I must say I've never heard anyone else's maiden MP speech so on that count I'm naive as to how this rates against them. Regardless well played.

I disagree with her politics entirely but props to her for a confident and well composed speech.

Props?

Did she need something to lean against?

All parties have people paid to write and edit speeches?

Knowing people would be looking at this one, I would estimate a LOT of backroom people contributed to its editing.

I still don't understand what experience a 20 year old can bring to the table for their constituency. Decent enough speach, would have been better if she could stand still.

Passion, commitment, hard-work and a sense of doing what's right, not what's convenient?

Seriously though... I thought it was a good speech, delivered with a sense of genuine conviction. In many ways I don't disagree with some of her politics and maybe some naivete is a good thing as long as it's tempered by a lack of any real power...

I don't understand what experience many of the 'professional politicians' can bring if they've only ever worked for the parties

At least the career politicians are obviously self serving, she's got more strings attached than a Thunderbird.

How can you fk up being an MP? Not sure it is possible.
Must have missed that one before.

Are you serious? I think there are quite a few examples to quote if you are.

Yes, she even kept a straight face when delivering a speech railing against political opportunism and tactical voting, then trotted off to be instructed by Surgeon to vote against hunting in England...

Doubt she would have needed instructing on that issue - not many left-wing 20 year olds are in favour of relaxing the fox hunting ban.
