I could live with a 9-5 job in Edinburgh or Glasgow. And I live in rural Somerset.

If the SNP wanted to use their tax-raising powers then they'd have to find a way to tax based on place of employment, I guess.

But they point is that they won't ever do so - it would be less popular than blaming the English for all their perceived ills.

Just out of curiosity, does Holyrood's disbursement of Barnet largesse reflect the intent of the formula? Or does Argyll see the same spending per capita as Paisley?

I don't think there's any conditions to it - the Scottish Government is responsible for allocation of funding to different areas, hence it literally is a 'Block Grant'..

That also means its the Scottish Governments responsibility for performance of areas like health care and education, and why some of us recognise the current administration isn't doing a particularly good job given the additional funding via Barnett..

The SNP's borders railway could be the nail in their fiscal coffin hehe I assume they'll not be keen to dual/motorway the A1 any time soon.

Even Belfast to Glagow/Edinburgh could be a shorter commute than Glasgow to Edinburgh I'd think.
Nonsense!

Do you get out much, simoid?

The route of the A1 and the route of the borders railway aren't comparable.

I can only suspect you don't fly to Belfast or do the Glasgow/Edinburgh commute either.
Of course the A1 and Borders Railway are comparable. They'd both allow English residents to commute to Edinburgh and avoid SNP tax hikes. Similarly - the M74 for the west.

I'd love to know the average time from Glasgow Airport to an Edinburgh residence (inside the bypass, say). If you left at 4pm you'd be doing well to get there by 6pm in most instances.

I worked on a project in Hamilton for a bit a couple of years ago and the PM was from Musselburgh. It took him at least the thick end of two hours each way.

Indeed - I don't envy that! That about 50 miles? So averaging 25mph and it's basically all motorway restriction roads.

The last time I tried to get into Edinburgh City centre, I left at 1750, drove for an hour at an average of 15mph, then abandoned the car at Hermiston Gait and got a train into Waverley. Edinburgh is the worst congested city in the UK in terms of % extra journey time in rush hour IIRC.

So the whole purpose of Barnet gets lost in translation anyway?

You don't live in the Home Counties and commute towards London do you smile.

Try 28-32mph mptorway average speed over many many years and that excludes the near on twice weekly big accidents which mean the trip turns from 1 hour to 3+ each way.

Fae Bathgate? That's a girl's name...
Fae may be a contraction of the proper name Euphemia, but it is also the Scots form of from, in which sense I was using it.

It should however be noted that Fae Fife is fae Fife. wink

I don't like the way the smarmy prick is worming his way back on telly, This Week and now Marr. It must be with the say so of Sturgeon to agitate for another referendum without her having to be explicit about it.

We rejected your proposal. You have no new proposal. You resigned. Now would you please just fk off you smug smirking .

They don't do democracy, unless it's their democracy of course.

Ah yes. The "Settled Will of the Scottish People" was a favourite phrase of the Nationalists - it should be respected by all including Westminster. Until it turned out that the Settled Will of the Scottish People was to stay as part of the UK. In which case it should be ignored and belittled.

Very sad for the Scottish people.
