These tax rises will just force people and capital south of the border - then who will they blame for not having enough money to spend?
The English, of course.

Tell me 'burger, what other reason would the SNP have for breaking with the tradition that dates back to their founding that Scottish universities should be self-governing and apolitical? What exactly is wrong with the system that this legislation seeks to address?

No other developed nation currently has or proposes to have the sort of legislation that the SNP are preparing to usher through to allow the Scottish government to meddle in these institutions.

Scotland's ancient universities pre-date the Act of Union by several centuries and have always been free of political interference by Scottish and UK governments.

What's changed in all that time I wonder..... scratchchin

Just so as you know - the slogan in the picture above is genuine...

Protect Scotland's Progress.

It dates from 2011 when the SNP first achieved majority, but an interesting observation is that the stats listed in the Twitter page linked have since gone into reverse, and the 330 schools referred to were funded by PFI and signed off by the administration that preceded their minority government in 2007, so SNP claiming credit for them is a blatant falsehood.

They were in the habit of telling porkies even then.

Back in August the Nats said they would announce the Scottish rate of income tax after the UK spending review. This new rate will come into effect in April next year.

we will propose an income tax rate after seeing the detail of the UK Government’s spending review, which is not scheduled until late November."

Lets see if they put their money where their mouth is now. They keep banging on about 'fairness', 'a more equal Scotland', people 'paying their fair share' and other similar meaningless sound bites. Well here is their chance to implement their dream of a socialist utopia and go on a spending spree on public services and welfare.

There is also talk of a local income tax being introduced and/or extra council tax bands being added.

The Scottish Government's draft budget will be published on 16th December.

Not sure what you mean by "lets see if they put their money where their mouth is now"? What do you expect to happen? And what is "fair"? Fairness means a lot of different things to many different people.

Is that a genuine (i.e. an official) SNP Twitter account? Not sure it is.

Funny picture but I'm not sure about the university self-governing point. Need to look into that.

At least you're making a point rather than just posting negative stuff.

It isn't our fault if the SNP takes actions that are in the whole negative and just plain stupid. Or indeed Out and out lies.

It absolutely is (or was). The slogan was coined as part of their re-election campaign in 2011.

The page relating to it on the official SNP website has now gone, but wayback machine proves it did exist.

Negative stuff is all the SNP provide, there is never any positives to discuss.

I don't doubt it existed, I'm questioning it's authenticity. I could set-up a Twitter account for the 'r11co monster raving loony party' but it doesn't make it authentic.

I was wondering that earlier. Mr Salmond was one of the first on his feet earlier, I noticed.

SNP generally equate fairness with equality. (And I don't think they mean equality of opportunity since their changes to university funding have made it harder for lower income students to get degrees).

Or more accurately, the SNP can say or do what they want because for a large minority, it doesn't matter as long as they support breaking away from the English.

But changes to university funding and a blanket abolition of tuition fees would never make it easier lower income students to get degrees - there are many more expenses than just tuition fees. as you know.

Oh and by the way, I take it you meant breaking away from the rest of the Unuted Kingdom rather than just breaking away from the English? wink
