Council tax has been frozen for years but lots of people seem to forget that it is US that have to pay it - it doesn't come from magic beans or anything else.

During the years before Hoyrood, and then the LibLab years in charge the Poll Tax or Council Tax increased beyond all recognition or resemblance to earnings. 73% in 9 years for me in P&K.

The SNP come in and freeze it which was a good thing for ordinary CT payers and it may now be time to allow some increases, but while councils can fritter away as much as they do, I'm shedding no tears for them.

These are my real, actual figures. I haven't updated it and water charges continue to have small increases each year. Maybe someone wouldlike to overlay the corresponding inflation figures for comparison, and if they are available, what about figures for average wage inflation too?

Period Amount Increase Increase To date
98-99 127.00 N/A N/A
99-00 135.00 6.30% 6.30%
00-01 147.60 9.33% 16.22%
01-02 165.40 12.06% 30.24%
02-03 177.50 7.32% 39.76%
03-04 188.50 6.20% 48.43%
04-05 198.70 5.41% 56.46% 5.41%
05-06 207.40 4.38% 63.31% 10.03%
06-07 215.30 3.81% 69.53% 14.22%
07-08 220.10 2.23% 73.31% 16.76%
08-09 222.10 0.91% 0.91%
09-10 224.10 0.90% 1.82%
10-11 224.10 0.00% 1.82%

"water charges continue "

Ha very good why don't add the fact of the water rates stolen redirected by Salmond to fund that ludicrous white paper...

Indeed, completely agree here - have no sympathy for councils who went on massive spending binges on the back of a decade completely unjustifiable council tax increases. It needs to continue to be frozen until the councils get real on spending priorities (including but not limited to executive and other pay)

How very dare you - branding possibly the greatest work of fiction of our time as ludicrous. I found it immensely entertaining and humourus. hehe

Are you talking about the White Paper or The Vow?
Or "The only way to stay in Europe is to vote No"?

Tell us about this vow, what specific law was promised and not delivered?

It was the only way to stay in the EU, had scotland voted yes they would have left two years before the rest of the uk.

The vow. No, that is on the factual shelf. The mere fact that the ScotNats decided to wilfully misinterpret it and then the SNP not use any of the powers delivered by it does not make it fiction.

The only way to stay in Europe is to vote No. Well, what can I say. At the time nobody knew the outcome of the Brexit referendum but most knew the referendum was coming so not really good fiction.

Besides which these were mere bagatelles compared to the White Paper which was a true work of genius requiring an imagination of extraordinary proportions to craft it and page after page of it. So good was it that a lot of Scots actually believed it to be non-fiction - unbelievable, but true.

It would seem Nicola has been paying attention to my last post on the "shop front" that is Edinburgh and has mobilised the locals to clean the place up.

I'm here for two nights on business and have to report that Princes St is now a modicum of cleanliness, little rubbish, the beggars appear to have been banished to Queen St and all seems well.

Pity the roads are like a ploughed field to drive along!

Noting earlier comments regarding the trams, I saw two sparsely populated trams during my 30 min walk around the city centre, bearing in mind this was 7pm, so late rush hour.

Seems sensible to lose a lane in each direction on Queen St for such use....

It seems that everyone's favourite indy fknugget Sean Clerkin has fallen out with the Scottish Resistance. Suspended apparently. Anyone else would stop and think if even those freaks didn't want to know you, but not our Sean.

So here's his latest attempt to bring down the British state.

Hi, welcome to Edinburgh again 👍👍.

Trams don't go along Queen Street though? Do you mean York Place?

To be fair, 7pm on a Monday is a bit past rush hour in Edinburgh.

The trams always divide opinions but in my view they're a fantastic and important addition to the transport infrastructure and the visitor's experience.

Ah yes, "The Vow", as printed on the front page of a tabloid newspaper and concocted by a journalist from same newspaper inspired by the output of a former prime-minister with no authority or position.

You are a fking moron if you attach any significance to that. It is a myth peddled by SNats to create false grievance, nothing more and nothing less (unless you believe the Daily Record overrules Westminster and Holyrood as the legislature of the UK.)

fking numbnut.

They don't add anything a bus can't add except maybe the novelty value of 'oh look, we're going down the street on a train'.

And they make it convenient for anybody staying at the York Place Premier Inn who needs to get to the airport after an early breakfast, or lazy fkrs who can't be arsed to walk to Princes Street.

And they look nice - but apart from that - a criminal waste of money.

Agreed. One third of the original proposal for three times the cost, without serving the proposed growth areas, whilst saddling Edinburgh council tax payers with a £300 million 30 year loan.

Meanwhile Edinburgh roads disintegrate and the city bypass slowly turns into a car park.

Innit. For a guy who clearly loves the medium of video he's really not got the hang of it.

Walking across shot
Back to camera
Failed props
Nonsensical associates
Various asides unedited
The sttest piper in the country
I could go on

But hey, he's got a £3.99 Primark tshirt printed and a wee Saltire to hold up. Viva la Revolution.
