My wife saw theresa may on TV bring asked about indy2 and she basically said that Scotland spoke decisively last time, once in a generation means that, and that these issues effect real lives, it shouldn't be political point scoring.

My Mrs is from Liverpool and Tory is a bad word but even she admired her for that.

More people willing to vote yes is moot if you can't have a legal referendum. And by the time the Tories are out (a while yet) the SNP will have fked up somewhere badly enough for their support to have died down.

Plus it will drive Krankie mental.

On the flip side that means she'd be on the telly every fking day greetin about Westminster/Tories/Hardbrexit/mandate/Scottishpeople bla bla.

Or she could have one anyway and go for some sort of UDI. See if the EU fancy someone with no regard for the rules.

Or we could just settle it once and for all with a once in a lifetime, once in a generation referendum... again. And possibly again.

fk the SNP.
I wouldn't put it past her to hold a Catalan style unofficial referendum which of course she'd win by a landslide because most sensible people would boycott such a pointless excercise.

They'd probably manage about 1,000,000 votes or so.

Similar in number to the SNP votes at the last election.

And the number of Brexit voters in Scotland.

#favouritefact

I found it interesting that Sturgeon said PM May has no mandate to take Scotland out of the EU. Presumably that'll mean any council area that votes to remain in U.K. can stay if Scotland leaves.

Theresa May: SNP has independence 'tunnel vision'...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-pol...

Some interesting comments - "I can't help but feel that the SNP has a tunnel vision about independence. Actually I think what people want is for the SNP government to get on with dealing with the issues they want to see addressed on a day-to-day basis.

"Issues like the state of the economy, reforming schools - education used to be such a great flagship for Scotland, but sadly in recent years we have seen that deteriorating."

Has PM May been reading some of the comments on this thread, I wonder? biggrin

How should the PM react when Sturgeon officially calls for indyref2?
She will have plenty warning for a start, because Nippy would first have to put it to a debate/vote in the Scottish parliament so as not to be seen as a total hypocrite.

i am sorting out a house for my brother at the moment, the next door neighbour is an ex trade union shop steward ,ex labour voter and now supports the snp. i always like to ask snp supporters the reasoning behind the support when i get the chance .
from what i can gather he started voting snp for the same reasons many people voted ukip. complete disillusionment with the labour party and a hope that out of the union the major parties scottish versions would be more accountable.

i thought his reasoning was interesting and it was nice to have a discussion with no anti english sentiment and blaming the tories for the worlds ills.it ended where we agreed to disagree then started talking about something else. quite often it ends up with the other person walking away in a huff . it probably helped we both thought kezia dugdale comes across as a pc preprogrammed phrase utterer with the substance and political nous of a blancmange.

She knew just like everybody else, that at the point of signing to respect the result thaat the UK would be having an EU referendum, and yet she didn't ask for a clause just in case, so there are no ifs no buts, the result must be respected as tbat is what SHE asked for and what SHE agreed to.

If her and the fat one had a bit of foresight and had a clause included now that would be different, but the fact they didn't is their own fault.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they had won both instead of losing, out of the UK and the EU.

Before they whine? Not sure that they should bother, we all know they'll whine whatever the result of the negotiations.

Quite. Having wound the media up to speculate that Nippy is on the verge of announcing a second referendum (notwithstanding that she has neither the mandate not the legal powers to do so, is bound by a prior agreement saying she won't, and would have to put a proposal for one before the Scottish Parliament before she could even consider asking for the s.30 order), the SNP will now 'pull back' from something they never had the right to push forward for in the first place.

Every time we approach an SNP conference we will have to put up with the same charade -'will she?' 'won't she?', but the correct question that is never posed 'can she?'

I'm sick to the back teeth of the media pandering to her. She's a charlatan. Call her out on every claim, finishing off with a photograph of her signature on the Edinburgh Agreement.

It would have made an interesting clause.

We're having a referendum to become independent which, if we win, will immediately take us out of the EU but if we lose and the UK of which we will remain part of, votes to leave the EU, we will want another independence referendum because we want to remain part of the EU even though the position we support makes us leave the EU and we will want to join the EU where we won't be independent even though we just went, er, independent. Sort of.

Etc.

Something like that silly

Actually we'll be voting to remain in the EU as the successor state to the United Kingdom.

We will also keep the Pound as our own currency and the Bank of England will be Scottish too, so we will be in currency union as it makes most sense. We will have a currency union with a country you need a passport to go visit and pay tariffs to trade with, even though it's our only land border.

We will have ever closer political union with a few dozen countries that you need a few hours on a boat to visit. Said countries will be entirely happy with this situation. Especially the loss of the UK rebate of £5bn per year, because Scotland will be able to contribute the £350m per day that the UK did(n't). From oil and whisky and oil.

Spain will be so delighted to assist a breakaway state, they will give us all the fish in the Atlantic. They will also be so delighted with more delightful Scots choosing Benidorm and Mallorca over Blackpool and Morcambe, they will grant Catalonia immediate independence in solidarity with the ideals of the SNP.

As 8% of the population, we're entitled to 8% of everything the UK owns.
Well, a quarter really because there's 4 countries in the UK but lets just say 8% to be generous.
Gold at the BoE, Crown Jewels, cash in the biccie tin under the bed, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Wembley Stadium, the Olympic Site and The Tube,
We want back the contribution we payed towards the M25 and HS2 because we don't use them.
Forth Bridge Crossings you say? Don't know what you're talking about laddie.
Don't even think about asking us to pay 8% of the National Debt though and we'll be keeping 100% of the oil fields. That's completely ours, nothing to do with you.
You will have to pay 100% of the decommisioning costs though as that's only fair.
Also, you came and killed our sheep in 1321 or something so we want them back too.

Am I doing this White Paper writing thing properly? beer

Of course. The trouble is that the "current account" is rather overdrawn so as it's only fair that we share everything, if you want to leave that'll be 192 Billion please.

The "8% of everything" always intrigued me. That would leave England, Wales and NI with 92% of Scotland's stuff presumably.

I tried to run this by an independence protagonist and he just didn't get it.
