Reading this thread is disheartening
Its obvious the only person in the wrong is the cyclist
I have less issue with him being on the pavement , than i do with him riding off afterwards

To say the child isnt supervised is ridiculous.
Barring holding a achilds hand everywhere they go, or having one of those leash things its resonable to watch your child leave your house and head to the car.

To try and say the child may have run into the road is pathetic. And smacks of looking for someone else to blame other than the cyclist.
Its pure speculation.
Id rather go on the facts. And its clear both parents were in close proximity. The child never went on the road.
Cyclist knocked down child on pavement. Parents tended to child very quickly. And cyclist choose to ride off.
I think the police will take care of this easily smile
It isn't pathetic to say a child could run into the road. Kids don't think like sane adults.

I never defended what the idiot on the bike did. I think he is an absolute imbecile and he needs to be punished for his disgusting actions.

You'd be surprised at how many people think the child running out to the car on her own isn't an issue. Personally, I don't agree with it because you simply do not know what is on the pavement (as shown in this example), and you can't trust a child to go where you want it to.

It seems like I'm in the minority in thinking this isn't good practice. Doesn't bother me really as people are entitled to look after their children how they wish to. When my daughter starts walking, she won't be going anywhere near a road without being looked after properly.
The child isn't on it's own, it's following it's mother to the car.
The father was also behind her and may on said something like "Go straight to the car/mother, be careful of the road".
I think you'll find the child was running alone onto the pavement.

Did I see a different clip?
Yes you must off because the father was just out of camera BEHIND her. Well either that or the guy that appears as soon she is hit is an Olympic sprinter and ran from the back garden!
He isn't holding her hand and guiding her to the car, is he. As I have said many times, it's only my opinion.

Some people get wound up far too easily.

Has anyone actually said that?

I don't think anyone is disputing that this cyclist is a complete imbecile.
They're trying to offload blame to the parents though, which is incredibly disingeous, and an attempt to excuse the cyclist. If the cyclist hadn't BROKEN TRAFFIC LAWS, this wouldn't have occured and NOTHING needs to be added to it than that.

It isn't an attempt to excuse the idiot on the bike at all.

Idiots are everywhere. Beihind the wheel of a vehicle, on a bicycle, drunk and wanting a fight in a club on a Friday night. You have to plan for idiots.

Quite, a child is mown down on the path by an adult acting illegally. Some people then try to apportion blame on the parents for what MIGHT have happened in a totally unrelated way.

I'm sure you don't. I'm sure that those who feel we should lead totally sanitised, think-of-the-children safety-is-paramount-at-every-moment lives simply can't imagine that a time used to exist when children had freedom.

The freedom I had, to go off and cycle on my own as a young child, to climb trees and whatnot, is now a totally alien concept. Now children are ferried everywhere by mum and dad, and have no time to themselves and child obesity is a national problem. Ye gods, parents are now criticised for failing to ferry their child safely from front gate to car parked at the kerb.

Yet our generations did survive, very much, with great memories and a gratitude for the freedom that for some reason is now denied.

Perhaps children should now be helmeted and leashed at all times.

You must have because in the one I saw the mother is clearly opening the car door about 3ft away and the father is at the front of the house. Unless they have immensely wide pavements the child was no where near 'alone'.
Child wasn't properly supervised across the pavement. You simply cannot let a child run anywhere near a road.
Wow how have I and my children survived! Lordy it must be a miracle! Praise the great pasta man!
I don't know how fools like you survive.
And I don't know how people like you manage to leave the house on a daily basis. Please do not ever try to walk and breath at the same time.

Not remotely wound up'. Why would I be? Not my child now is it.

Do you hold your child's hand all the time in the house? After all they could touch a hot stove, sharp knife, gain access to chemicals, fall down stairs, electrocute themselves, drown or a 100 other dangerous and harmful things.

You, sir, are the moist arrogant and conceited person I think it has been my misfortune to meet on PH. And that is some achievement, well done!

Enlighten us all oh great sage. What earth shattering achievement are you referring to?

Getting out of bed doesn't count BTW.

Read it again genius. Does it say I have children? Read it slowly!
