Britain leave the EU? It won't happen, so it's a waste of time discussing it. The invasion of Europe by third-worlders is what we should be talking about.

Also, how out is 'out'? The 3 main 'outs' Norway, Iceland and Switzerland still have the free movement of people from the rest of the EU, so if we end up like them most of the 'kippers are going to be disappointed when their plumber is still Polish.

Nothing has changed. The policy is to have it by the end of 2017. There has been talking of holding it sooner if practicable.

You can keep trying to get "Desperate Dave" to stick, but it is laughable when he has just won a majority. Just learn to live with the fact that UKIP lost one of their two seats.
True on all counts, but remember that majority is only 12. What will it be this time next year?

Major had a 21 majority. What did Maggie have 5 years prior, 102 majority! Things have changed.

CMD knows he has to get the referendum out of the way. It WILL be earlier. There is absolutely NO CHANCE that he can lower the immigration figures. A few Tory rebels (there are more than a few!), the inevitable by-election or two? It won't be easy, far from it.

Nah, take it from me, that Referendum will come sooner than later.

5 year term? We shall see.

The fixed term parliament act makes it really difficult for it not to be 5 years. Even if Cameron loses his majority.

Oh I realise that. But imagine the turmoil if it his majority does get whittled down or even if he lost it. Remember, CMD is packing it in after this term, he's said so - the possible successors will not be leaving it to the last minute to contest the new party leadership. I reckon turmoil is nearer than you think.

Well, maybe. But wasnt it Ken Clarke who said 'You can always get a deal with an Ulsterman'?

Control, it's about control.

300,000 and set to rise will no longer be out of control. Needing a refresher, I'm off to look up the meaning of the word....

Unsustainable... A word even Dave has been using of late ... Good for Dave.
As free movement of people is part of the free movement of goods and services deal I fail to see how leaving the EU will make any difference or add to any control unless we propose to leave the free trade area.

We already have control of non-EU immigration and struggle to manage that anyway.
All the more reason for effective control.

Unsustainable ... simple as... next folks will remind us there's no such things as health tourism.

Hey, Dan's back!

Has it taken you two weeks to get over the election result?

With a Labour Party stuck on the left, the Fixed Term Act and a referendum (that will be won )on Europe, Cameron will be there as long as he wants to be:

Its the invasion of Europe by third worlders which will add impetus to the out campaign, before they all end up here. Of course if the EU relinquishes power so that we can control our borders and immigration properly we would stay in.

By going full steam ahead Cameron is playing a blinder.

Ukip and co were calling for a 2015/16 referendum assuming it would never happen knowing full well there is no organised "out" campaign and knowing an early vote is very much against them.

Now Cameron has called their bluff and said "OK then let's have it" and they can't complain knowing they'll look idiots.

If you want out then you should be hoping Cameron delays to late 2017 as with no money, leader, campaign staff or organisation the "out" side doesn't stand a chance with an early vote.

I dunno. It doesnt seem long enough to get any meaningful negotiation. Unless the EU folds like a cheap suit to Camerons demands. Camerons biggest fear must be that he is perceived as doing 'a Wilson' and gets everybody's back up.
