The professor continued: “My basic point is: Leaving the EU just returns us to the status of a normal self-governing country, like Japan or the US – all these [states] who badger us to be in the EU are all self-governing countries as a matter of fact... Sometimes I’d like to ask these US people if they’d like to be run by a sort of linear combination of Mexicans, Canadians and Russians, who are all their bordering countries... I don’t think they’d be too impressed.”http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/leadi...
A good point well made.

Clearly these other nations would all have USA interests as their prime concern, just as the EU has UK interests at heart and is visibly effective at managing a shared currency across diverse economies and has the toppest of top people running the show selflessly and if not then we can eject those umimpressive eurocrats who were not elected by us

I have long wondered similar things in relation to the west's collective mindset as a (over) reaction to the horrors of the 1930/40's.In other news Jeb Bush has backed the prospect of a US-UK trade deal in the event of Brexit. Of course based on current poling he isn't going to be in the race probably.
What links to this would people like? Seems that certain individuals think they have authority over the acceptability of sources.

Why, is there is some sort of PH limit on the age of articles linked?

Some people think EU incompetence and vindictiveness have expiry dates.
The only applicable date for the above is the date of Brexit.
Only the open, democratic and wholly philanthropic EU could snuggle up to seditious libel in the way that it does, and wants to embrace further.
BTW under the nasty principle of seditious libel, the fact that Connolly's book was accurate in its protrayals made the seditious libel greater because the damage to the EU's reputation would be greater. The facts that the text was accurate and the damage deserved simply don't figure with seditious libel.
Exports to EU down 2.1%, exports to RoW up 6.8%
Deliberately chosen a Mail link just to poke the snide set.

Inspired by that thought I had a quick look over at Fox to see if they covered it.Deliberately chosen a Mail link just to poke the snide set.
The article linked above is well worth a read, there are lots of juicy nuggets:
- 13th month in a row in which UK sales to RoW outstripped trade with the EU
- no end in sight to the eurozone crisis
- EU share of world trade shrinking relentlessly
- eurofanatics offer nothing but scaremongering.
- in spite of spin from Obama's puppet, senior US politicians say that 'of course' they would forge a separate arrangement with the UK
It's tempting fate a bit to dwell on these rarher meaningless numbers IMO. The EZ could pick up or sterling could fall relative to the Euro and turn this around ahead of the referendum (wouldn't that be convenient?). It could also be taken as proof that we can and are trading with the RoW from within the EU.
Worst of all though it juat misses the point. The reason to leave the EU is the EU - a fundamentally undemocratic superstate based on the wrong ideas and implemented badly, by arrogant fools who actively despise and flagrantly ignore the very principles which make countries free and prosperous in the first place. As far as I can tell no significant portion of the British public ever had any wish to be any part of this and they don't now.
If it descends into some silly pissing contest about fluctuations in exports and imports then it risks losing the point. The only point. Which is whether or not we should be a self governing country or not.

Sort of agree that the basic reason to leave the EU is the EU itself.
These side arguments are just that, side issues. But whilst the Remainders are coming out continually with their spreading scare stories and in some cases downright lies which have been discredited time and again then those fights, albeit side issues, should be picked. As an aside, this is one thing where UKIP supporters seem to be particularly bad, picking the correct fights.

LOL. As predictable the kipper-jerk is in a full swing(!). Don't let me interrupt please. Apart from daft article being 14 years old, if it was true quite a lot of people / institutions would be 'outlawed' by now, not to mention the one, the only, the Leader, the unstoppable force that is Dear Nige.
Fourteen years.
When good, hard working countryside folk of UK choose to stay in, it'll be interesting to seem same head-scratching that followed destruction of UKIP at GE.
But, I guess if you get a chav-tat, you might as well get a t-shirt.

For someone that thinks UKIP has been destroyed you don't half spend a lot of time and energy worrying about them.Fourteen years.
