FIFA corruption arrests
Discussion
I can just imagine the scene...
FBI to FIFA offender:
'We have you bang to rights on 100 counts of wire fraud. You have 2 options - tell us everything you know about everything and we'll get you a nice upstate open prison for 18 months, or we'll stick you in a max security jail somewhere in the middle of nowhere for the next 2,000 years'
The whole truth will come out VERY quickly once they get these guys extradited to the US.

I know I'm thick but according to Sky Cameron has weighed in and said blatter should resign.
Great I'm sure he should. But doesn't that also mean Cameron should resign because as leader he's responsible for his MPs fiddling expenses? Or is that completely different.
It's kinda different as he wasn't prime minister when the expenses scandal happened.Great I'm sure he should. But doesn't that also mean Cameron should resign because as leader he's responsible for his MPs fiddling expenses? Or is that completely different.

What are the chances of that happening here? The defendants home governments might squeal a bit, but what can they do? The defendants are in Switzerland and subject to Swiss law... they could try diplomatic pressure, but I don't think there are too many nations with much leverage over the Swiss - the Swiss are very independent, and well able to stand up for themselves.
Everyone seems very sure Blatter will have to go but the sponsors don't seem to be going anywhere yet, despite everything's that happened he'll probably get elected this weekend anyway. I'm calling it, nothing will change, blame it on the individuals and let them take the flack. There's too many people and countries with too much power and money to lose.

Well Budweiser managed to reverse a law banning beer sold in stadiums to prevent deaths and violence at football matches in Brazil prior to the 2014 World Cup Imo they are up to there neck in it as much as FIFA themselves. Playing the high and mighty now is simply farcical.

I think you're spot on... that's what will happen short-term, at least. The risk for Blatter is one of those arrested implicates him in something illegal in return for immunity or a shortened sentence... then he's fubar.

The sponsors are only waiting to give him time to go, rather than end their deals, find he then goes and they are left fighting for a deal again.I find it rather sad that we still have such unprincipled, apparently massively dishonest people who are allowed to keep on dragging their institutions into the sewer.
I can only assume that he knows that once he is gone a lot more stuff will come out and his true part will be known. I can't wait.

The sponsors don't need to make any decision just yet.
They will make their play when it is in their best interests to do so.
the sponsors are probably busy making sure no one has possibly done anything wrong on their behalfThey will make their play when it is in their best interests to do so.

For $10 Million - I'm sure someone in Corporate Sponsorship land will be tempted to whistle blow.
This has the capacity to become very entertaining over the coming months.

Wire fraud alone carries a maximum penalty of 20 year for each offense... and each individual e-mail is one offense.
