Much as I dislike Murdoch, I have to say that the Sunday Times may well have played a part in this by their reporter's stories over the years. Hr did that bit for panorama which was widely criticised. If only I'd kept a list of those who said it was distorted.

why would anyone who ever had any connection with the Cayman Islands FA have been arrested?
Because he's also president of concaf and vice president of fifa
whoosh
OK so you knew that, sorry I can't read minds. Was you post funny? I don't get it.
given the nature of the allegations its interesting anyone arrested had connections with the cayman islands - which is best known for what?
If anything its ironic. He was born in Cayman and lives in Cayman, yet according to the indictment they laundered the money through the US. (Doh!) A bank in Cayman does get a mention in the indictment as, if you like, the final resting place of some of the money but given that he lives there it's hardly surprising; an irrelevant fact obviously included by the Feds to make him look dodgier.

BBC News 24 reporting that there's nobody from the Brazilian FA left in Switzerland to vote tomorrow - one of their two delegates is in jail, and the other one seems to have fled the country. I wonder how many countries will be absent for the vote?

hah now I see the bigger picture...these arrests conveniently took place just a day before elections and guess who is Blatter's opponent? Prince of Jordan(US puppet state) who is also married to a CNN journalist... as much as I despise Blatter, this guy comes from a country that is no example of transparency.

In a nutshell, US wants direct control of FIFA and probably the first step they will make is taking the 2018 WC from Russia.

It seems Putin is already concerned and knows something more.

I'm sure he does. Totalitarian states like their paperwork and I'm sure they've got all the receipts for those Rolex watches, money transfers and call girls they used to secure the world cup.

In fairness criticising the Prince of Jordan for not coming from a bastion of transparency, then referring to Putin as some sort of credible source is a bit rich. You'll be bringing Kim Jong Un into it as a second source next...

I agree though the timing is pretty 'convenient' to say the least. Could be just as simple as waiting until everyone was altogether in the hotel though, for the conference like.

Sepp will win his election

If they voted him out he would open the whole can of worms on them

And its a huge can worms, more like a skip.

Having been very surprised that Blatter did turn up for that meeting, I would hazard yet another guess that he is going to try and brazen it out like that other head of a world sporting organisation (& acquaintance of our Derek) did when his interests..

WHICH ON NO ACCOUNTS IS ANYONE ALLOWED TO MENTION!!!

were uncovered.

However, all it needs to bring Blatter down is one of his now banged up buddies to start singing like a canary. And a few hours being convinced by the FBI that their future lies in Supermax dressed in orange, might possible happen fairly sharpish.

Do you take a picnic to the grassy knoll?

So, did the USA get Ali into FIFA in the first place or do you think this is a recent plan? More likely there because he is used to managing bribery and corruption, rather than being a US puppet.

As for Putin, well it's not going to look good for Russia if it's shown irrefutably that they bribed their way to the WC, and even worse if they lose it. What else is he going to say?

I was amazed at Blatter on TV last night saying that he cant be expected to spot illegal activities by his colleagues when he turns his back.
He has been in charge for 17 years and stink has slowly but steadily increased over those years.

Now he tells us he is the best man to sort it out. jester

An abbreviation of "association" as in "Football Association".

Blather will still win the election. When would.be a good time to make corruption-related arrests?

I think Blatter knows that all he can do now is await his fate. If they have or obtain evidence against him he is toast. If they don't have evidence and cannot obtain it from others, the last thing he should do is pre-empt events by resigning.

With regards the sponsors I heard some interesting views from a U.S "brand consultant" on the radio last night. He said that the big sponsors take a pretty dispassionate approach to this sort of scandal. If it doesn't actually affect their sales, they won't remove their support. However they will be monitoring public opinion and social media etc, and the minute they perceive that the tide has turned against them, they will move very quickly to protect their brand by dropping support for FIFA
