Interesting comment in the Telegraph noting that the wirefraud offence usually pertains nowadays to email exchanges. If the FBI are after the email trail I'd expect there'll be a bonfire of Desk & laptops going on in Zurich right now.
ha.
"That document stated that the Attorney General’s office had “seized data and documents stored in IT systems at FIFA Headquarters as part of a ‘collection of evidence on cooperative basis’”. The report goes on to say that any files seized today will serve in the proceedings taking place in Switzerland as well as overseas."

Just heard on the news that apparently FIFA will not suspend any of the arrested officials. Outstanding.

Of course, they think they are above the law and wont wake up till they have their bail refused in a NYC court and have to swap their Italian suits for orange overalls and get sent to Rikers awaiting trial.

As an outsider, I'm no fan of the supposedly beautiful game, it strikes me that the chickens are slowly coming home to roost on this organisation.

Global sporting administrators don't seem to be the most wholesome of organisations. On top of FIFA, the IOC and F1 spring easily to mind.

Hopefully the FBI and Swiss Government between them will actually sort these crooks out once and for all.

How Blatter hangs on is beyond me.

Not sure if the FIA is corrupt but it certainly has its shortfalls. The ICC is another institution that seems to be run for the good of one country and little else. However the R&A and to a certain extent the USGA and PGA do seem a little more enlightened

He'd have made doubly sure that nothing can be traced back to him.

Whatever happens now though - FIFA's credibility is totally shot (as if it wasn't before).

Yes, I don't doubt that yes

But ordinarily, the head of any organisation/company that had this sort of investigation in to it would immediately fall on their sword.

Blatter seems to have no sense of personal responsibility at all.

I think you're being a little naive if you think that any head would automatically fall on their collective swords. They might once the evidence piled up against them but sadly that's not going to happen anytime soon. A lot of the people have ridden roughshod to get where they are so I doubt having a moral compass is high on their to do list.

In a normal business the top man would be forced out by the shareholders PDQ. FIFA is structured in a way that prevents this happening as long as enough brown envelopes change hands...

It will not be just the FBI, as there will plainly be tax evasion taking place too, the IRS will get involved.

I'm sure that Blatters defence will either be.

a.) "Its funny now that football is finally becoming very popular in America, its the FBI that are flinging these baseless allegations against FIFA. The Americans and their TV networks are trying to seize control of the game!"

b.) "Given the areas from which most of the accused officials come from.....
ITS WACISSSISM!!!"

Either way I would imagine Mr Blatter is currently on his way to his friends in Qatar on a private jet as we speak. I would be very surprised if he is still in Switzerland.
