I was thinking of booking my honeymoon in Santorini but this recent story plus the extreme prices have put me off and I'm now looking at Mexico instead
Mexico? If you are not kidnapped for random and then beheaded to death you will be caught in the crossfire and killed to death. Where in Mex are you going?BrabusMog said:
I've not been to Santorini but I'll post up feedback when I am back - I have been to Mexico a few times, so hopefully I can give you some advice based on my trips. I'm proposing when I'm in Santorini, starting to mildly brick it now
I proposed in Santorini a couple of years ago on the terrace of our apartment in Oia. Lovely place to choose. Hope it goes well for you (don't carry the ring around in your pocket with your loose change all evening like I did).Sarkmeister said:

Just back from 2 weeks in Nidri (Lefkada - Ionian islands). No problems with ATMs, and you'd never know there was a financial crisis at all.
When Greece falls out of the Euro and Target2 then ATMs will all be turned off. If they weren't off when you were there, then it might be that Greece hadn't fallen out of the Euro yet!BrabusMog said:

Whether you agree with the article or not, I'm puzzled why people, who have managed to cross the border into Turkey to escape the war in Syria, are travelling the length of the country to risk a sea crossing over to Kos and the other Greek islands.
Surely once they are coming from Turkey they can't be considered as refugees fleeing from a war zone.
If they don't announce themselves as asylum seekers in Turkey then there's no real problem for them - you can't say for certain how they arrived in Kos. If you're forced to leave your home country you might as well go the whole hog and end up in a shed in the back garden of a house in East London.Surely once they are coming from Turkey they can't be considered as refugees fleeing from a war zone.

It might be a good idea to change your Euros before you go rather than relying on being able to use ATMs there. The Greek banking system may go bang at any given moment.
You could also turn it into a working holiday by hiring a boat while you're there and popping over to Libya to collect some passengers. You should be able to charge $1000 per person.
Kos is nowhere near Libya so that would be a silly thing to do.You could also turn it into a working holiday by hiring a boat while you're there and popping over to Libya to collect some passengers. You should be able to charge $1000 per person.

If you are going to flee one country (or several) check that the final destination is not a bankrupt basket case I guess. From The Telegraph - "Migrants-forced-to-live-like-animals-in-abandoned-Kos-hotel"
