I'd assign it the same sort of significance as the car odometer getting to 100,000...
Oh I don't think it's as important as that.A day to switch the TV off - we know what kind of fawning
twaddle will be on the BBC for a few days - and go and do
something else more interesting.
Maybe I'll paint the shed and get it ready for winter.

She's admittedly a dutiful old bint, but I'd probably think more kindly of her & her ridiculous extended family if I didn't have to pay for them with my taxes for decades.
It's not like she's short of a bob or two, is it?
60+ years having to be nice to despots, boring farts and aholes at the behest of a variety of governments. not my idea of a comfortable retirement. It's not like she's short of a bob or two, is it?

Walk to car > walk around building that smells of fresh paint > Walk back to car. Occasionally substitute car with plane. It isn't exactly hard graft is it? I watched a doccumentary about Fred Dibnah last night, now that is proper graft.
Seriously though, I don't think that it is anything that needs to be celebrated, at least by the general public. I wouldn't turn down an extra bank holiday though.
I'm not a fan of the royals but the longer she keeps Charles off the throne the better!

Out of interest, what do you think that she has done badly?
I, personally, would tend to disagree and think that she has done most things very well, some things exceptionally well and only a few things rather poorly.

Lisbon Treaty in 2007 said:
The Conference recalls that, in accordance with well settled case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Treaties and the law adopted by the Union on the basis of the Treaties have primacy over the law of Member States, under the conditions laid down by the said case law.
I agree with Esseesse. You can't get much more of a failure as a sovereign than to end national sovereignty, and that is what has happened. And she is no longer sovereign. She is an EU citizen. Parliament can theoretically still throw out the treaties in the way that Scotland could leave the UK, but that doesn't make it sovereign under the current arrangements. Britain is a subordinate part of the EU.
Not sure you can exactly lay the blame at the door of Elizabeth Windsor as an individual, it would be politically very difficult for her to strike down the policy of an elected government. Then again when your job title is Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of this Realm and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith you'd expect to make a few tough decisions.

I'm not a monarchist but there's little doubt the Queen has done an excellent job, although I'm not sure it's a job that should still exist. But even if I'm right, that's not her fault and as an individual I have a lot of time for her.
But I don't really get the point of this event. Basically, your congratulating her for having a father who died relatively young and her having a long life, both of which are beyond her control. The length of her reign says nothing about it's quality.
But I'm a miserable sod. I don't really get birthdays, even my own. So, the tiny rock I live on has completed another lap of the nearest ball of fiery gas, since I was born. Why is that an achievement of mine?
