To be fair though, if someone like Katy Perry adopted me, I'd carry on breast feeding as long as I could.

Stupid, selfish mother.
How so?
Apart from it slowing the development for the child it will damage their teeth long term, much like sucking a pacifier with teeth. Their immune system will be weakened in the long term as they have relied on the mother at a time when they need to build their immunity.
But she's not solely relying on breastfeeding for nourishment. It very much sounds like it's an occasional "supplement".

And, given the known benefits of breastfeeding, I fail to see how it would slow development.

Although, as posted above, the effect of announcing to classmates though you enjoy a spot of bitty every so often is not going to go down well. laugh

Just asked a friend who breast fed their baby about this, she is of the opinion that it's very wrong to still be breast feeding a child at that age and it's bad for the childs emotional development.

Especially when it goes in the Daily Mail so her classmates find out about it.

Not convinced this is genuine as it only seems to be on a couple of those Facebook "news" linked stories, but.....

One of my best friends is a Paediatric Dentist. She has quite a number of stories re kids with really awful teeth due to breast-feeding up to the age of 10!

When told that the sugars in breast milk were rotting her son's (aged 8) teeth one lady replied "Oh, should I worry about my husband's teeth as well then?"

My friend was able to keep it professional and together until the lady and small patient had left the room and then she and her technician just collapsed with laughter.

Weaning onto solids usually happens around six months, but varies from child to child.
Weaning to some solids from 6 months yes, but the advice is to keep breastfeeding for aslong as you can up to a year as milk is still important for them or formula if you're not B/F.

My 5 month old lad is on a combination of B/F and 2 bottles of formula a day at present.

No, teeth aren't an issue. The World Health Organisation recommend upto 2yrs.

6 months is the most important, a year is good but not so essential etc etc.

I'm just in the process of slowly moving over to formula for my 6 month old then probably swap to cows milk at a yr old.

This woman is definitely doing it for her own needs, it is of no positive benefit to the child, certainly shouldn't need it for any kind of bonding process etc.

My 7 month old is on solids and B/F and will likely be till 1 yr. Milk is, as you note, required till 1, and system delivery method is just a matter of preference smile
