Yep, he looked rough as fk the last few TV appearances I saw him do. I guess all the booze finally caught up with him, such a shame for his friends and family.

One of the few semi-decent politicians that said what he thought rather than the party line as well.

Agreed, RIP. A decent man, by all accounts, his personal demons notwithstanding.

I hope this thread stays respectable. frown

He always seemed to me to be a decent man, unlike most career politicians.

Shocked, he was human and as such flawed whereas most politicians seem to be eerily robotic nowadays.

Although I don't agree with his party or their policies I still thought he seemed like a decent chap - what a pity.

Have the papers started the "it was the booze" speculation yet?

Hugely sad loss of an intelligent and likeable person. He was someone you could talk with about almost anything and he had a razor sharp memory.
His son Donald will only be about 10 years old.
He'll be a huge loss to Lochaber.

Always a gentle and well spoken person in politics, UK was better for him being a politician for us.

Makes you think twice about your own drinking, 55 is far too young, thoughts for his 10 year old son. frown

What ashame, esp for his young family, always thought he was a very likeable and decent man even with his drinking issues.

So sorry for his young family.

Usually I just think 'oh well' when news like this is released but I'm genuinely sad about the passing of Charles Kennedy.

He appeared to be a charming politician.

RIP.

Very sad - he seemed one of the more 'human' politicians. A tragedy for his family.

A true gent has passed, he was a credit to Westminster, he had far more integrity than Clegg. He will be sorely missed.

I met Charles Kennedy at a wedding several years ago, a hugely engaging man who was clearly very capable; sadly afflicted by addiction that prevented him realising his full potential. Very sad for those close to him.
