Black woman turns out to be white
Discussion
Shami Chakrabarti was on the Andrew Marr show this morning claiming to be blonde and Swedish. That was the first time I've ever seen her make an attempt, no matter how feeble, at humour. She still couldn't grasp what was wrong though with a white person claiming to be black for political gain. Infringed on their personal human rights I guess.

There is a small, but growing, 'trans-racial' movement in the United States. Their argument seems to be 'I may be white on the outside but deep down I am black/latino/chinese etc, who are you to say otherwise'. It won't be long until equality laws cover such people.
I hope it explodes, then race will be no more, just perceived race. Perfect! There was also the case of two brothers who became free around the start of the civil war. One joined an all black regiment of the union army and was taken prisoner by the confederates. The other, who had decided to be white, then joined the confederate army in the hope of rescuing him.
The whole race thing has been obviously absurd all along.
Why do people conveniently forget the white slave trade?

I am sure she identified very closely with the woman - both using acting ability to gain fame and income in the 'rights' industry.StottyEvo said:

I hope it explodes, then race will be no more, just perceived race. Perfect! As she said - later - if they get someone apparently white saying they were black they'd have to run with it. They could not, of course, reject the person for telling lies on their application for quite obvious reasons. The legal dept would be aghast.
There was a recent test on male DNA which showed that a clan in Scotland, which not so much claimed but trumpeted descent from Irish kings, was, in fact, more Norse than Scot, and had little Irish. Some bloke interviewed suggested he was devastated and indicated that his life was somehow destroyed. It was as if the truth had someone changed him in his eyes. It's not as if he had to stop eating potatoes and start hitting people with an axe.
It does throw up an interesting question though - at what point do you stop being considered black or mixed race.
Many 50:50 black/white mixed race people consider themselves black. I bet a fair few people who have 25:75 do too.
My cousin is mixed race. Her grandfather is black, whilst her grandmother is white. Her mother is therefore 50:50 mixed race. Her father is white and so my cousins is 25:75 mixed race - however to look at - you would swear she was white European.
If somebody puts that they are mixed race on an application form - would they be required to prove it if it wasn't outwardly obvious?
