A suicidally depressed person had been prescribed anti-depressants? Somebody hold the press...

IIRC anti-depressants are rather stab in the dark type stuff, their name is quite misleading. They aim to alter the chemical balance in the brain, where I don't think in a person, depressed or otherwise, there is technically an imbalance in the first place. Big money behind them too obviously (and the pro-cannabis lobby)...

The whole thing was very said, but I feel particularly sorry for the relatives.
If this happened to one of my loved ones, I would certainly want the perpetrator to see the inside of a cell.

No, specifically cannabis, I'm not talking about anti-depressants. I'm not disputing those.

I'm not going to argue with you on that point but the flaw in your logic is attributing his actions to the anti-depressants, rather than to his mental state or to allowing someone in his mental state to take control of a plane. Do you really think he would have been safe to fly even if he'd never taken them?

Well, as I am currently taking anti-depressants it looks as though I am overdue to become a crazed, psychotic killer eekeek

How depressing...

There is a significant correlation between school shootings in America and cannabis use. IIRC Lee Rigby killers too.
I can believe that..

Lot of issues being looked at with mental health issues due to cannabis..
Yeah but what comes first, the MH issue or the drug use? Many use cannabis to self-medicate, just like alcoholics self-medicating.

Certain antidepressants* have been linked to suicidal and homicidal behavior in young people (under 25 IIRC) for decades now... sometimes in people who were not even prescribed the med for depression in the first place.

I'd rather take my chances with the cannabis than the st psychiatry pushes. Clearly this guy is bonkers and he will now spend a long time in a mental hospital being pumped full of so many antipsychotic drugs he will be a fat drooling wreck not capable of harming anyone.

  • "Antidepressants" in name because that is what the SSRI class of medications was made for, however they are now handed out like candy for anything including chronic pain, shyness, PMT and even premature ejaculation......... or basically any condition the doctor doesn't really know how to treat.

Okay, did you really think you're posting on a forum on the internet? Maybe it's all in your head?

I have no list, but mindless violence and cannabis use seem to occur often enough that we should investigate it. Apparently the ISIS killer in Tunisia the other week was a cannabis user too.

Do you 'not have a list' because you're too ashamed to post a link to the Daily Mail?

http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/2015/06/yes...

Or is it merely coincidence he publishes that article yesterday and you've resurrected this thread?

It was brought to my attention by Mr Hitchens article yes. I don't have a list because I don't keep one. Is that ok?

Not surprising, inability to climax is a side effect of at least one SSRI.

Not keeping a list obviously excludes you from commenting on the subject. Unlike other contributors who are enthusiastic list keepers - aka OCD. As for daring to read the ramblings of someone who sometimes writes for the UK's largest circulation daily - how dare you. A mention of the 'Daily Fail' would prove how well informed and right-on in your views you are.

IIRC The Mail on Sunday is owned by the fail but is completely separate from it.

Weed arguements are really not relevant.

What is relevant is that the Police should have been able to shoot him sometime during his 20 minute or so violent rampage. One well aimed bullet. Problem solved.

Mental issues or not, the world would be a better place without him in it.

  • Plus for the killers of Lee Rigby as well. A quick response armed unit, with use of deadly force, and then a quick inquest. No need for another two unwanted burdens on the tax payer of court appeals, and nice comfy prison costs.

The cannabis arguments are more relevant than arguing the police should turn into executioners...

The killers of Lee Rigby received a quick armed response unit who used deadly force, but just didn't result in fatalities.
