This seems to be very obviously the right decision. The man was, and is, very mentally ill and belongs in a secure hospital.

He decapitated two cats, believing them to be demons, then attacked Mrs Silva, believing her to be a supernatural entity - either Adolf Hitler back from the dead or a demon who had taken the form of a little old lady. That doesn't sound like the sort of thing a sane man would do.

I think it's coincidental rather than causal. There's known to be a higher incidence of psychosis amongst people of Afro Carribean race.

There is a significant correlation between school shootings in America and cannabis and/or antidepressant use. IIRC Lee Rigby killers too.

There's no proven link, what there is a proven link to is genetic legacies within the ME population who have elevated level of psychosis.

So which one is it? That's like saying the murder weapon might have been a spoon or a machete.

Can you provide some sources to this significant correlation between school shootings and cannabis use?

More like a sword or a machete. Both mind-altering substances.

I will have a look. Anders Brevik had been on steroids and the co-pilot of that plane that was deliberately crashed recently had taken/was on anti-depressants.

I suspect the causation is the opposite direction though - people the mental health issues are well known to self-medicate with a wide variety of drugs (alcohol included). Either that or we're looking at a common causation - certain personality types being drawn to both things.
