My best mate was in Tunisia a few weeks ago, not sure where exactly yet.

Had been looking at holidays last week and had felt iffy about Africa as it was. It can get fked now.

Aren't ISIS trying to set themselves up as a new ethnicity?

Much the impression I got. The urban areas were certainly well educated though. We went for dinner with a local guy in his early twenties at his mates restaurant. They were all university graduates with impressive degrees, saving to move to Europe and work (legally) as doctors and other professions. He was working selling boat trips on the beach at the time.

I remember them being quite proud of their comparatively liberal treatment of women for the region too.

If your idea of a holiday is an all inclusive endless sunbathing session fuelled by poolside beer, then yes not much point in going outside Europe.

If you were interested in the Atlas mountains, deserts, oasis, all manner of wildlife, cave dwelling bedouin, buildings from the Roman empire, a fascinating mix of Muslim and western culture and some of the most hospitable people on earth, then Tunisia was always a favourite of mine (closely followed by Morocco).
I always fancied visiting the Star Wars houses, but I don't see that being reasonable in the near future.

Found out this afternoon my partners Uncle and Auntie have both been shot. Him in the leg and her in the groin area. Both in hospital at the moment but okay last we heard. Bit gob smacked really. Heard it on the radio and had an instant bad feeling, text her and told her to check up on them and then got the news. Horrific. Don't know much more at the moment. Been a sombre evening..

Amazing place. I have an album full of developed photos (remember them?) of the last time I was there and I took a mate who is a huge Star Wars fan.

Just spoke to my Mum as well, the hotel that got hit was right next door to where we used to stay frown

Yep, awesome from that bloke. Sounds like he has made it through the toughest bit, hope he makes a full recovery. It's those like him and those that sadly haven't made it through the day that should be getting the media attention if their families allow. I hope to never see the face of the surviving coward unless he's drowning in pig's blood.

According to BBC news channel, AFP are reporting that a Tunisian source says most of the dead are British.

Edited to add that the Tunisian source is the Prime Minister.

Not at all. Anyone going over there for a relaxing break must be mad. Earlier this week I had someone saying how much of a bargain it is to go there, not surprising really.

It's really sad, and my thoughts go out to all of them. But why were they there? It was inevitable that tourists in a Muslim country in that part of the world were going to be targeted in a big way, and I am surprised it has not happened much earlier., or on an even bigger scale.

No Muslim country is safe for real people, and they are not really safe for Muslims for that matter. What worries me even more, is how many of the people in Calais share the same ideals as these devil worshippers?

We also have a Dubai holiday booked for November, how worried should I be.......

Ask Trax. He can't figure out why anyone would even consider holidaying in Muslim country.

Had some more news this morning, Miss JNH Aunties femur was shattered by the bullet, had surgery yesterday. Looks likely it will be save-able. Uncles wound wasn't that serious and is okay. Thank God. I fly to Greece today and I've lost my holiday enthusiasm somewhat..

A work colleague of mine was there a few weeks ago. When she told me they were going, I said I would never go myself as it's an area of North Africa that would be an easy target. I hope she isn't caught up in this and is back at work on Monday.

I do wonder if there are more British dead than the five that have been confirmed. Terrible news.

I know, but that's why I did add 'in that part of the world', but my worry is how long until places like Dubai become like African Muslim countries, is it possible?
