Interesting little piece in The Times yesterday relating to a Sunday Times investigation into Mr Palmers career called Operation Tiberius. No way to link so quick précis.
1.) Palmer was protected by a cadre of corrupt police officers in both the Met and Essex.
2.) In searching for his assets the investigation has uncovered "endemic police corruption linked to major organised crime"
3.) Palmers organisation was able to infiltrate the police "at will in north east and east London"
4.) Two of Palmers associates were once arrested with a pair silenced Uzis and 400 rounds of ammunition.
5.) He was not killed with a 12 bore shotgun as previously reported but by a small-calibre weapon, the type of which the article doesn't mention.
6.) "Palmer was found to be a close associate of Kenneth Noye...
I think the answer to post of those points would be "No s

Interesting about the small calibre weapon though, this second change of heart by the authorities doesn't seem to have been very widely reported.

The lack of exit wound suggests it was more than likely a .22, which is a professional killer's weapon. The fact that the killer disguised the entry wound by shooting him in the surgical wound also suggests a degree of proficiency in the use of a gun.The Hypno-Toad said:

Suppressed .22 rifles are very common in the UK as they are perfect for vermin control

Well, I suppose that means that there was at least *some* professional involvement in the whole affair.Everyone else involved seems to have been some form of amateur clown or outright chimp.
