My first response was Oh fk off.** How stupid is it all getting now. Maybe with modern digital editing they could replace it with a dillo ISIS flag?

A few years ago, a friend was on holiday in Florida and was drinking in a hotel beach bar type place, and happened to be wearing a confederate flag T shirt he had bought.

There were mostly Americans also drinking and chatting in the bar, also on holiday, and one of them asked him why he was wearing the T shirt. He said it was just a bit of fun seen as how he was in the south, and to him it meant the hillbilly lifestyle: monster trucks, beer, watching the Dukes of Hazzard as a kid etc.

The Americans then proceeded to lecture him about how it meant Salvery, Civil war and numerous other offensive things. They weren't angry or anything, just clearly irked at his perceived ignorance of wearing such a 'symbol' and felt the need to mention it.

He didn't wear it again.

I guess this backlash has been brewing for quite some time.

About 150 years wink

Seriously though my greatest surprise is how long it has lasted. I felt a little 'uncomfortable' about it many years ago when I first realised what it stood for, but just put it in the same box that I do the name of the dog in Dambusters - it was of the times, it is no longer of the times and so past contextual use is no issue but present application should not be tolerated.

Ebay have this week announced they won't sell items with the confederate flag on. The General Lee car model was still available though.

It's been a good 30 years since I've seen any DoH but I watched this with my parents and I doubt my mum would have allowed me to if the show had racist overtones.

Is my memory wrong?
No idea, all I can remember about the show is Daisy Duke in a pair of skin tight denim shorts.

In the film when they are driving through Atlanta a woman shouts 'Nice roof rednecks' or similar, that was a few years ago now.

No reason to pull the show IMO.

Something happens in real life, so ban something on TV.

There we go, the balance has been adjusted.

It's like banning the George cross, because some drunk hooligans who have them on their sleeveless t-shirts have some bad opinions.
Nobody has banned anything. A cable company has decided to pull an old show that nobody watches anyway from it's schedule at this sensitive time. That's all.

Autotrader have been running ads for quite some time now featuring the good old boys and a 69 Charger with no stars and bars...

The flag on the roof is just another reason for Sheriff Rosco P.Coltrane to be chasing them

Ohh how I wanted to slide across my dads bonnet and jump in the window when I was 10, he would have killed me though biggrin

It's a requirement for stock cars to have the doors welded shut for safety.

Ridiculous!

The kid had easy access to guns but the reaction is to ban the flag.
Guns don't kill people, flags do.

Asterisk doesn't work on PH when used as the first character in the line on a post. It does now I've quoted you.

Similarly, autocorrect sometimes works in ways you don't wish it to.

Funny isn't it, the internet.
*it does if you put a space before.

rofl It's getting silly now. Same as if you sell the old board game "Escape from Colditz" you have to cover up the Swastika.

+1

These items physically exist in the real world, and banning the terms from the search facility in eBay/Amazon won't suddenly make them disappear!

Should we suddenly smash up and burn every trace of history that we now find objectionable?

Plenty listed with the Swastika in plain view, in fact I only saw one with it obviously concealed.

Changed then as before they were all pulled.
