Eh?

Not following.

To paraphrase....

The BBC recruits employees from the same employers for which it is dependent upon for funding.

The existence of the BBC is dependent upon the 'charter' being renewed by Government.

Therefor

The BBC adheres to the policy of the 'Government' paymiester.

I have. It's only twice the licence fee.

The best bit is they'll actually show all the rugby, football (if you must), F1, etc. that the BBC look down on.
Your maths is bad...

TV license = £145.50/annum

Sky (original) = £20/month = £240/annum
Sky (sports) = £25.50/month = £306/annum
Total = £546/annum

difference = 3.75 times as much. I'm sure you can haggle that down/threaten to leave, but it ain't "twice the license fee".

Additionally, your claim that the BBC "looks down" on particular sports seems an odd comment.

I'm paying £27.60/month total, including Sports.

Give or take, it's about twice what the licence fee is though you can work out the decimal places if you'd like. I've not even done any threatening.

I stopped paying it a good year or two ago, don't miss it at all. Don't like a lot of British TV and really dislike just about every piece of BBC programming.
yes

When visiting my parents and having the pleasure of live TV broadcasts, we realise just how bad British TV is.

We don't miss it at all. Far happier with the likes of Netflix smile
What other countries have better TV than Britain?

Do you watch anything on Netflix that was produced by the BBC?
My sister would love to have access to the BBC, she has moved to Australia and great programs there are not in abundance and they have an ad break every 5 mins or so!

For those advocates of the BBC and the 'World class' shows they are developing...can you list a few as I must be missing out. The only things I can think of are:

Sherlock
Top Gear
Musketeers (was ok)

I'm not fussed about documentaries etc...I'm after Action/Drama/Comedy types please. Thanks!

They'll have killed off Top Gear and the other two are being exceedingly generous.

I'd give them, or at least Hat Trick Productions, HIGNFY though. That's about where I run out. I'll watch the Daily Politics but world class is probably a stretch for that.

But they need to cover everyones interests, I for one do like documentaries.
Poldark was good
As a fan of tennis, their Wimbledon coverage is very good (to me it is anyway)
They do some very good afternoon dramas.
Peter Kay's Car Share
I really liked their recent drama with Max Beesley in it (name escapes me right now)
Hell I even like Homes Under the Hammer on occasion 9though anything beats ITV's Jeremy Kyle!!

Not all of tha above could be classed as world class, I realise that.

Thanks Funk, good information.

Ali

It draws it's staff from the same sources, therefore has a certain culture.

It relies on a charter granted by the government and renewed every 10 years, so is not "independent" in any meaningful sense.

Infer what you like. Plenty of my views about here for you to read if you're interested. I am certainly of the opinion that we don't need a state broadcaster funded by a TV tax concession.

There was Rome (although that was joint BBC/HBO production), Life on Mars and Ashes To Ashes, but how long ago were they made? I think one of the last BBC DVD's I bought was Planet Dinosaur!

I bought my wife the Silent Witness complete collection - the first ones are pretty good, but the latest were comical, almost a parody of its former self!

I remember a few years' ago, recording a BBC programme about the history of Christianity (not that I am at all religious, I am not, I just love history). The presenter was a Muslim scholar (IIRC), and it seemed that she used this programme as a platform to take the piss out of Jesus and Christianity. I didn't mind that, but I learned nothing I didn't already know, it wasn't deep and seemed light on any insightful content, and also thought about what would happen if...well, you know.

Perhaps the one topic which the BBC has demonstrated a certain 'partiality' towards is that of MMGW.

However, both CON, LAB and LIB/DEMS have also been full-on for renewables, apparently as a consequence of MMGW.

I'm really not sure if it is the place of the BEEB to to produce 'evidence' which may undermine all Western political doctrine.

Not really tbh. Netflix is subscription, not adverts. The rest have ads but I don't see your point. For one I adblock most of them anyway and two the choice is mine to watch the ads, watch the channels, buy the stuff, don't buy the stuff.

What I don't want is to be forced into paying for something I don't want. I'd also like to have a proper discount on my council tax given I don't, haven't and likely never will use the majority of services it funds but that's going a bit OT (or OTT!).

Internet speed!

Presumably Netflix are investing heavily in the optical fibre connectivity in UK...

Or not.

NetFlix did pay US ISPs so they would stop throttling NetFlix data.

It wouldn't surprise me if Sky BT and any other ISP who comes up with a TV service throttles the competitions data to their customers. (While prioritising their own obviously)

You're getting a great discounted deal then, as I quoted the prices from the Sky website. Are you also paying for telephone/BB too?
