Cancer sufferer get house repo'd
Discussion
What's the craic with this then? I can't help thinking that the cancer (nasty as it is) is just a sob story add on,
Guy says he doesn't owe anything to the banks as they changed his mortgage conditions unknowingly,
Banks say he owes c£50k
Public outrage bandwagon assembled
Police have to cordon off the streets
Guy gets repo'd after eight year battle
Guy claims he's going the repo the repo'd house
Surely the guys in the wrong, refusing to pay his mortgage I'm surprised he's got away with it for so long, and why didn't the protestors (100s of them) donate some money to take the heat off?

"Prostate cancer survivor Mr Crawford"
OK, he had it, now sorted as far as anyone can tell, so that can go back in the box.
"They claimed he still owed £43,000 in repayments, but he insists the figure is zero because they changed his mortgage terms without his knowledge.

Sounds like he's trying to find some weak loophole, like they spelled his name wrong on a form so gets a free house etc..

I can't find the full judgement but some of the highlights were reported here.
Judge Godsmark said:
The points raised by Mr Crawford are either without foundation or legally misconceived. Factual assertions about changing the terms of the mortgage are misplaced; both sides agree that the mortgage terms were not changed.
Judge Godsmark said:
The reason that the Crawfords owed more at the end of the mortgage than they did at the beginning is that there is no longer an endowment policy which was supposed to repay the capital borrowed. However that came about, the Crawfords have known since at least 1999 that there was no means in place of repaying the original capital. Mr Crawford was offered the means to repay capital by way of a repayment mortgage but refused. That explains how we have ended up at the end of the mortgage term without repayment of capital.
Looks like a 'you scratch my back..'
Another supporter, John Place, 32, of Aspley, added: ‘Tom is a great man who helps other people facing eviction so it is about returning the favour.
‘He has been there for so many other people, so we want to repay him. There are a lot of heated feelings. We see this as inhumane.’

From personal experience Bradford and Bingley were / are the most awful outfit to deal with both before and after their collapse.
Not going to relate the whole story as it's not relevant here, but years back we recognised there would be a shortfall and tried to take steps to take action. A complete catalogue of administration errors and inaction on their part made the whole process more difficult and ended up costing us more in many ways. Right up to the end, including paying off the balance and getting the deeds off them , complete set of useless tossers throughout that couldn't even get my phone number right despite being told teens of times.

Although it was obvious to savy people what was going to happen to endowment mortgages the more naive public were conned by them. Its similar to timeshare etc, the clever people stayed away but there are plenty of people who are screaming blue murder they have been conned. It seems he has flipped and said look you conned me, fk off.

Whilst I agree with you that he is playing the system & using his illness for sympathy, it is not quite as simple as saying once he has the all clear it is the end of that & his health will be back to normal.OK, he had it, now sorted as far as anyone can tell, so that can go back in the box.
I myself had the all clear around 25 years ago, & although cancer hasn't returned the damage to my immune system from radiation treatment has given me many ongoing health problems that hugely affect my quality of life.

That's why the medical profession and statistic analysis used is 'survivor', and rarely, if ever, 'cured'.
Just the same as you can 'survive' a bomb explosion or horrific car crash.

I think the people going to the UK Column with this Court Seal stuff may have a point. You know how the police and the IPCC like to play procedures. So why aren't procedures equally being followed when it comes to repossessing property?
A convict was released from a British prison a few months ago by him Emailing the prison. He managed to make an Email appear like it was from a Court and he was released.
So I think there may be some validity in querying the legality of documentation used.
This piece in the Daily Mail yesterday of the Met's failures in the Stephen Lawrence case:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3180644/I-...
Former officer Driscoll recounts a tale of 'files can't be found'. He went into a police station and found them for the people that couldn't find them.
No files can be found to back up tales of Cyril Smith stopped on the M1 with child porn in his car in 30 odd years ago.
Last year Peter Wanless of the NSPCC searched the Home Office for details of a cover up of the information passed on Leon Brittan by Dickens. Now in July they've apologised as they've now unearthed some files that they couldn't find last year.
So given the flaky record the police, Govt. and Home Office have on basic housekeeping and record keeping, I think querying whether a piece of documentation is valid is acceptable and understandable.
I found the UK Column coverage of the Sheku Bayoh death and Police Scotland interesting. The police being allowed to have a meeting with a police federation rep. and not being able to be forced by PIRC to answer questions about the incident that led to the death Sheku Bayoh is bit like the group of lads that killed Stephen Lawrence to convene to get their stories and alibis in place.

Interesting how people get all cry happy about cancer, but none of the other equally serious illnesses, to the same degree.
