.But clearly something went wrong, my personal belief based on nothing other than gut feeling is we need more police doing police work and more back room staff supporting them. We need to pay more for that. I'm far from a lefty but I'd pay more tax to properly fund the police, nhs, defence and education system
You'll not get far on PH with that kind of attitude smile
It would be good to see more police on the streets but when you read about people like Sara Thornton getting quarter of a million pounds for what looks like a QUANGO position you can see where the issue is. Too many overpaid managers in made-up positions. Get rid of those and you'd have a massive amount more finance available for real policemen.

"The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) helps the police cut crime and keep the public safe by joining up the operational response to the most serious and strategic threats. Focusing on operational delivery and developing national approaches on issues such as finance, technology and human resources..."wobble

Essentially, and I am making a couple of assumptions here, the missing cousin has probably gone missing before and it will have been a previous line of enquiry recorded on the missing persons' system. I'm surprised whoever was doing the missing person work didn't recognise the name given the publicity.

Why's that? They've been made aware of new information and are investigating it.

Meanwhile, former Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, Sara Thornton who is now in the £252,000 per year role as the head of the National Police Chiefs Council says Police may no longer attend burglaries.

She said it "could be" that if an iPad was stolen from a home an officer would not come round to investigate.
Yes, these are the decisions that need to be made. You can't do the same with less.

If however they used it to call them a nasty name on Twitter they'd be round like a flash! rofl
Nearly all social media 'incidents' / reports don't receive an officer.

Most of the NPCC is made up of the Chief Officers. 250k doesn't meaning anything within the police budget and represents an extreme, unique position rather than anything meaningful and typical.

A national view to help coordinate effective savings and ideas from one force to others helps save money. For example, those that looked at sharing services like HR and other corporate functions can pass on their learning and experiences to others through a group that coordinates things nationally.

Ok, I'll take your word for it. I thought it would have represented 4 or 5 beat coppers on the street. You know best.

It may do, but would that add greater value? Her job means she has the opportunity to improve policing on a national scale and coordinate greater cost savings across the board. If she achieves this it's much better value than 4 / 5 PCs.

She's a Politician. Rather than tell the truth she chooses to toe the party line and not risk her future prospects. I don't think she contributes anything to Policing.

I don't know much about her, but I don't think this sounds too much like the party line, which is essentially 'everything will be Ok with budget cuts':

"Over 10 years we will have lost about 70,000 posts and I don't think it's possible to carry on doing what we've always done, as we will just fail the public but also cause unacceptable stress among our officers and staff," she said.
