Wonderful news that Jeremy Corbyn has won by a landslide. Labour is moving to be a Socialist party again and the Blairites and their fellow travelers can just suck it up. At last a person with integrity is leader of a political party.

You need to look into Corbyn's past before you start shouting about his integrity.

I think his past is going to be looked into many times over.

Indeed. Pretty good news only if the principles of the Labour Party are to include buddying up with Islamist misogynists and homophobes, and supporting dictators such as the late and unlamented Gaddafi and the still all too with us Putin. You can know a man by the company he keeps.

Any bets when Putin gets mentioned in the media?. I think I had better get me flares out ready and fire up the Capri ghia.

I'm hoping that Cameron et al keep their powder dry for a couple of years before revealing stuff. The longer he is leader of the opposition the more he will fk it up. Maybe just leave him to it and watch them self-destruct even more in 2020?

I'd have thought that the Tories don't want anyone but Corbyn at any cost.

This really is bonkers. What WERE they thinking?!?

There's a nasty rumour going around that Jeremy Corbyn will introduce legislation banning anyone from earning more than £12,000 p.a.

Bugger. I applied for a job paying £16,000 p.a.

I think politicians of all sides are guilty of buddying up with nasties of all colours and creeds, so Corbyn is at worst on an equal footing with everyone else in this respect.

I can't see how he can possibly keep the Labour party together, but at least it will be pretty interesting to watch and if he pulls it off we will get some divergence and debate around fundamental policies.

According to Radio 5 Live, the first thing that'll happen is mass resignations from the shadow cabinet.

Oh come on, get on with it!

Labour spokeswoman on SKY just now claiming it was Labour that got women the vote. I suppose it's like 'Thatcher closed the coal mines and said rejoice when the Belgrano was sunk'. If they repeat it enough some idiots will believe it.

Sounds like he will be well suited to government then. Not that he'll get anywhere near number 10.

Don't know what the fuss is about. He's only been elected the leader of an already failed political party still reeling from the worst election result and biggest rejection in living memory. Having said that, his acceptance speech was an impressive reminder of the Labour Party of my youth when the speakers were passionate advocates of equality before the law, a buffer against the slave masters of industry, and most of all sincere in their beliefs. They may well be wrong in the way they put their beliefs into practice but they are worthy principles none the less. If all they can do is to some extent moderate the worst excesses of the party of self entitlement then good luck to them. We need a set of brakes on the present set of runaway crooks. Gloating by their opponents is rather tragic and predictable. If anybody thinks all the villains in politics are in his party, they are naïve. Or blatantly prejudiced. Please direct all flak to my holiday home in Sicily - for two weeks. Long Live the Monarchy!

reading the full results on the Labour website - whilst it is true the new members pushed it to a landslide, he got very nearly 49.6% of the full member's votes, so even if they had just allowed long term members to vote he would still of won.

Trouble is, some of his policies are *extremely* populist.

Did you hear the cheer to his speech when he stated that Khan as London Mayor would "stop the social cleansing" of the city. The implication being that he'll start building genuinely affordable (or, dare I say it, council) houses again.

Free or cheap housing is nothing but a vote winner (as, with his party, we don't have to worry where the money comes from).

I've not read any of the 11 pages of previous posts but I guess the Daily Mail reading little Britain conservatives are out in force again smile

I grew up under Maggie on one side and Michael / Neil on the other and at least they offered a wide aspect of choice. I chose the liberals / democrats as I was always middle ground smile

Then the middle ground got in the UK and that was seen to be the way to go for all parties; we got Blair. He was fine apart from the disgrace of the Iraq war. Since then for Labour we had someone called Mr Ed recently, totally unforgettable. The conservatives had to become unforgettable having to be in government with a shared party.

But now at last we have the Tories throwing off their Liberal shackles and now Mr Corbin who will likely show some teeth also the other way. Being a liberal I actually admire that distinction again. Give us proper different paths to choose from.

At last we have some differentiation again, no matter who you support. But not as extreme as in the USA where the polorisation is still working against them, like it was with us in the 1970's.

Have you seen how Donald Trump is doing in the USA? Perhaps we will see the rise of interesting politicians again. Something to route for. Or maybe not, time will tell.

I am pleased Jeremy got in just to shake things up from this staid mundane status quo. Lets see how he does before judging him. The news folk don't like him already as he is anti media. They should love the fact he has given them an easy writing experience wink
