Pity Dave Nellist isn't an MP anymore. A proper leftie with real convictions. Or Chris Mullin, a principled leftie. I'd rather have either of them or Corbyn than Yvette Cooper or Andy Burnham.

Gladstone was 82 when he started his last stint. Reagan served as president until he was 77. He appears to have all his faculties.

Image is subjective. He does look like a geography teacher but there's no rule that says prime ministers must look like insurance salesmen. That's just a trend.

I would probably disagree with Corbyn about almost everything. Though if he picks up on the current trend of left wingers supporting EU secession maybe not. I am just a bit wary of the way the media seem to lead public opinion in this way.

He's the guy Krishnan conducted yet another needlessly aggressive, pathetic interview with, yes. I don't think he's ever shown someone their own ahole, just comes across as a thick, rude Paxman wannabe.
Spot on. I watched and the interview and even I felt sorry for Corbyn. Krishnan is a prick. Can I say that? Too late
He (Corbyn) seemed to want to meander and slowly move his way through an issue without really addressing it. I'm no fan of either, but I think he got a kick up the arse for being deliberately vague and exploring a point that wasnt massively relevant

It was a rubbish question. He was wilfully misinterpreting a comment and taking it out of its context, knowing that Corbyn would have to explain the context in order to demonstrate the question was unfair and then not allowing him to do so by insisting on a yes or no answer when he knew one couldn't be given.

Gladstone was the century before last ffs, things have changed. Even Reagan was 30 years ago now.

Look around Europe (or the US) and show me a leader as old as Corbyn, I can't think of any. Not that age itself should be a barrier btw, I'd far prefer a 60yo who had been successful in business than a 40yo career politician like Burnham or Cameron or Clegg. But a 60yo career socialist with a beard isn't going to wash.

I still want him to win though.

If you mean Clinton first that's hardly a certainty, second she importantly doesn't (imo) look as old, and third I'd say she has a unique advantage in that her surname is Clinton.

I'm going to sign up tomorrow and pay my £3. My vote always counts for nothing and I feel like making a difference for once.

Corbyn isnt old for a leader by global standards. Putin is older and Merkel not far behind. Its just recently there has been a few very young (by historical standards) leaders coming through. Remember Pitt the younger though.

Andy Burnham - MP for Leigh (that's the in the North West for any Home Counties Tories)
45yrs old and has never had any kind of proper job outside of politics. His only 'customers' for the last decade are the voters of seat that's so safe for Labour that you could paint a dog turd red and they would still vote for it.

Yet here he was in Reading this week, lecturing at a Microsoft conference about how much Labour understands business. Totally fking laughable and no credibility whatsoever. There's 18yo apprentices with more nouse about business than him.

And to think they got kicked to the kerb in May because people thought they were out of touch. rolleyes

Andy Burnham can't even tell the truth about his personal grooming habits. What will he do when it's actually something important?

When was then last party leader who wasn't a professional politician?

Paddy Ashdown I can think of.

Anyone else?

Several had short careers as lawyers or barristers before becoming professional politicians, didnt they? Thatcher for one, does that count? IDS (military). Even CMD worked briefly I think. Where do you draw the line?

Who have both been in place what, 15 years? They were elected in their 40s. Most European leaders are 40s or thereabouts. It's no coincidence that the original 3 (or 5 if you count Hunt and Chuka) are all 40s too (OK Chuka 30s).

Corbyn is 66 now. And looks every year of it.

Not sure what Thatch did, but I'd be fairly confident the rest just frigged around until a safe seat came up and the party hierarchy deemed them worthy.

There's a tin foil hat website that reckons Thatch was a dominatrix. I REALLY want to believe that.
