Many people seem to be fooled by his apparent 'human' / 'man of the people' / 'ordinary guy' persona. Don't be fooled, his politics are of a pretty nasty flavour and would drag the UK back to the disaster of the 70s. We really would be in trouble. The far left are always lurking within the Labour party, just waiting to bubble to the surface.

Would it take the SNP becoming the opposition for that to happen. Now that would be funny, and tragic. Will he fall on his sword... no doubt assisted by many.
it certainly seems to me (sitting in London) that the only leadership out there (govt OR opposition) is Nicola FishFace at the moment ..... The rest is all just rudderless.Puggit said:

Won't he have to stand down with a vote of no confidence or can he ignore it and carry on? Can they just elect someone else as leader
And what are pplh current view of him
The vote of no confidence was from Labour MPs. It's the Labour Party which votes for the leader, not the MPs. So it was 'advisory' - much like our in/out referendum. Won't he have to stand down with a vote of no confidence or can he ignore it and carry on? Can they just elect someone else as leader

There is a question as to what will happen to Corbyn should this happen; there is currently a legal debate as to whether Corbyn's name is automatically added to the ballot sheet, or whether he would need to gain nominations from MPs.
If he is automatically added to the ballot, there is a strong chance he could remain as leader, as he is still popular with the grass roots. If he does require nominations, he will struggle to get onto the ballot form if he only had the support of 40 MPs in the recent vote of no confidence.

You are missing the relevance. If he has no support from his MP's he cannot form a shadow cabinet and he cannot be an effective and functioning opposition.
He is a dead man walking.

would/could the dissenters in PLP join with the SNP to form a new political party? Socialism UK or some-such?PurpleMoonlight said:

But he has formed a shadow cabinet (albeit made up of people we've never heard of) but the fact is he has.If he has no support from his MP's he cannot form a shadow cabinet and he cannot be an effective and functioning opposition.

It's up to the labour members to vote for a new leader but I'm not sure if there's a clause in the Labour rule book to get rid of a leader if he doesn't want to go?

Obviously the parliamentary Labour Party want rid of him ASAP. There are a number of labour candidates who could be strong contenders in a general election, I'm amazed Corbyn still remains in charge.
