Would make good dead ringers parody in the way they mock her on the Politics Show.

Andrew Neil:

"And now we meet Jeremy Corbyn, who as leader of the party has slept with Rhianna, Reese Witherspoon, Gisele Bundchen and.... DIANNE ABBOTT!"

The fightback has begun - he's winning elections (from UK Press Gazette);

"The election win was considered so minor that it had not even been covered by local media.

Corbyn said: “I’m going to tell you something now you won’t have read in any of the papers because none of them had any space to carry it whatsoever, they are very busy with all the important news of the day.

“I’ll let you know that on Thursday night, which is only 36 hours ago so the news should have got through by now, there was a by-election win in the district of Thanet in which the Labour candidate took the seat from UKIP and won it for Labour.”

On a massive 13.85% turnout, with nearly 500 votes cast, Labour walks it and Comrade Leader trumpets it from the battlements. More here -

A gamble, I'm not sure there's always risk, of events dear boy, etc. But right now which party looks like a govt, which one appears to be led by a prime minister? Labour a complete unelectable mess, UKIP also in a leadership contest, without a USP in some quarters, or its figurehead, LibDems anonymous, only policy now to have referendum 2, Greens - yawn. If May is going to sell out on Brexit means Brexit, there would be a school of thought go early, claim a mandate, while there is perceived disarray. Hell I'd vote Tory (and I never had and not that it wouldn't matter) to keep Labour out of power, if the cult leader is still in charge.

There is one problem, the fixed term parliament act, she'd need some turkeys to vote for Xmas. No party in disarray is going to join to make a 2/3rds majority to repeal the act. SNP are not going to do the Tories a favour, I can't see them winning anymore seats in Scotland, there's only 2 left.
It's a gamble for the future of the PLP, but one he should win.
As for Parliament, if what people accuse Jeremy of is truthful, that he isn't interested in power via that means, it's a gamble he can be blasé about, not that it's set the Tory's could make gains. The ref situation throws so much confusion into the mix, and the spin coming of Westminster beats the Blair days.
I don't think May would want an election because it is too difficult to predict what would happen, and because her enemies in the party aren't dead, plus you've got the extreme outers who will be on her neck all the way.
I can see the only way is up for the LDs. UKiPs...who knows...now they have gotten rid of their cult leader.

Quick point of order:

2/3 majority needed to permit a GE whilst the fixed Parliament act applies.

Straight parliamentary majority to repeal the act so forever more the PM can call a GE whenever they want within the 5 year period since the last one.

Either way, in my opinion it's irrelevant - May won't want to.

No chance of a GE, as the saying goes, never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake.

If labour MP's decided to defect and form a new party, do they retain their seats or is a by-election required in each case ?
They retain their seats until the next election. It's an anomaly of our system in my view.
Our system is a representative democracy, we choose our leaders, we don't directly steer policy.

The MPs are the elected body with the mandate, the Prime Minister is the person who has the confidence of those MPs and thus gains executive power. The next largest group gets to be a shadow executive.

One of the strengths of our system was recently demonstrated where we had a rapid and orderly change of executive.

We don't vote for political parties, this is also a strength of the system because it means that they can and do fail occasionally.

If MPs do choose to change party the rule of law puts limits on the damage that they can cause in the remainder of their term and the next election allows voters to pass judgement on their record.

If Labour MPs wish to form a "People's Labour Party" they have the freedom to do so. They would be the official opposition and would have three years to prove themselves.

New ICM Research poll gives Tories a 16-point lead over Labour -

Con 43%,
Lab 27%,
Ukip 13%,
Lib Dem 8%

Of course, such a parlous showing by Labour is nothing to do with Corbyn say his followers, and all the fault of the PLP, MSM, MI5, Mossad, Blairites, Muroch, Lizards, etc (delete as applicable)

Interesting you should mention this. I think it's likely to be the other way around. The Gordian Knot of "My-dad-always-voted-Labour..." was broken in the referendum.

Clearly not in Ramsgate. Now the referendum is over maybe they are switching back from one anti establishment party to their old one. Makes sense now that UKIP no longer have a reason to exist in most people's eyes.

Jesus, at this point you'd normally expect the opposition to be well ahead in the Polls.

They have even managed to fall 9% behind in Wales. They were 10% ahead at the 2015 General Election.

CON 31% vs 27% in 2015 GE
LAB 22% vs 37% in 2015 GE

Amazing the EU loving LibDems haven't seen a massive surge in support given how vocal they've been on getting back in to the EU ASAP.
