The HST / 125 entered service in '76 'beef. In recent years the entire fleet has been re-engined
Why did they re-engine them knowing the hitachi are coming next year?

Is there value in them to be sold to a 3rd world country/donated instead and we reduce our aid budget for those gifts? Or more them to other parts of the U.K. And change the even older slower junk they currently use.

I think there are still a few English Electric diesels from the late 1950s floating around. But don't tell Corbyn or he'll make a political point about them. EE was an amazing company - Canberra, Lightning and railway engines that last forever.

Train financing is pretty niche, at one point one bank was leasing out the vast majority of the UK rolling stock, so much so they had to scale back due to risk exposure.

Most had new engines no later than 2004 so they have got their money's worth out of them. It's not like they were done this year.

Easy Lower the floor to allow for it.

We need new trains anyway so let's ask the engineers how they can increase an intercity from 800 seated 8 carridges to let's say at least 1,200 seated
Don't you think if it was that easy it would have been implemented already? ToC are more than happy to increase capacity but they can't due to the infrastructure. This is why they have converted the buffet car, run suburban trains on inter city routes, etc just to get the numbers up.

I wouldn't describe myself as a seasoned rail user so take this with a slight pinch of salt but if I know this stuff, then surely the great wise commuters and regular users do??
Opinions are like belly buttons.......everyone has one, except read the press and 'independent' regular rail users will tell you at times it is so difficult to get a seat, if you are on the tube at times its impossible to get on at certain stations.

Try traveling from Birmingham to London at around 16:30 - 18:30 I feel sorry for regular users (Daily travel) as they have an awful job getting a seat the carries are packed
Is there any point in asking you to address each point in turn? Or am I now being a numpty???

And less of the vague rhetoric and vague generalisations may help?? Just my opinion.

Happy to be corrected with detail or factual answers.....

Over to you?

Nearly as good. It was actually Col. Sanders. Corbyn spokesman on Sanders: 'Jeremy was misinformed by an aide, who had wrongly been led to believe this was the case'. They're absolutely hopeless! hehe

Whatever legitimate point he might have made(and there are plenty of faults in rail in the UK he could aim at) will never get any traction because he now looks like a mendacious lying tit. You might as well strike a comparison with the last train from Glasgow to Aberdeen, which departs about 2140 and usually has tumbleweed blowing up the aisle; he was on a mid-morning service with seats to spare and he's a terrible liar, when the politician becomes the story they have failed.

He was in my town last night, and I hadn't a clue. It's a long term Tory seat. Just seen clips of it on the local news and it was a carnival atmosphere. Up on their feet clapping and hopping up and down. This is worrisome. I have to rub shoulders with these people...

I don't get this - come to an area to increase support just invite your supporters... Don't tell anyone else.

Either imbecilic or a stroke of genius.

Corbyn is such an arse, and proves it every day.

In which case, is there any point, any longer, in continuing to waste PH space on him .... ?

The surprise is that 500,000 specific people really strongly support him plus X amount more generally.
