Mass expose blackmail never works very well. Once you threaten you lose your power because you are subject to the dictum of "publish and be damned" and once the bluff is called the blackmailer/publisher loses all their impact.
Far far far more likely is that this was a targeted hack bought and paid for by a rival website/service that wanted to bugger a competitor before they floated and effectively sealed their market share. The individual details themselves are irrelevant.
Can't be that hard to e-mail everyone on the list and demand some money or you'll publish all their details on the web. Even if a small % of the 37m take up the offer you are quids inTo whom? Where? Even if they had heard of it, the lifespan of this is less than 24hrs, actually its more like 12hrs, because sleep and work takes care of half that time. Why only such a short period? Because tomorrow brings more and different immediate crisis such that that random torrent file on that random place on the internet falls out of your "to do" list.

Shouldn't be too difficult to present the billing addresses overlaid on Google maps or similar, with a hyperlink to registered name, age, obligatory cock photo and a transcript of their chat/email history... creating a public searchable directory with the option to have your name removed for $50
Who wouldn't have a quick nosey scour of their neighbourhood if such a URL were made public?
Didn't somebody do something similar (but very crude) after stealing AOL search history with logged username/IP, years ago?

Try telling that to people who end up divorced, never see their kids again and have the CSA chasing them for 20% of their wages because of this 
I think if people have used the site and their partner has no idea then publishing the names etc are unlikely to have much impact. But, if someone already suspects their partner then when the details are released it wont be hard to find if they are on the list with a quick Google search.
If there are people of power or well known people on their then they will be s

It provides a means for people already dicing with their marriage to meet like minded people. It takes two to tango and its those two people who have made their choice. It is not up to some keyboard warrior on some moral crusade to out them. lol, post on a torrent site (you know the pirate bay and similar, their is stuff like this on them all the time) by the hackers then 'the groups' will go through it find any celebs/high profile connected people and you know go to the papers, in the short term then in the long term get a website up that can be easily searched to see if your spouse/friend was/is using it. All pretty simple stuff really, non-geeks may not know what a torrent is, be we geeks are vast and organised and we have marketing geeks in our number. :PRight then. And post where? Searched by whom?
