Can we hunt him using an Apache?

Well first of all have you ever lived in a country where the wildlife can kill you and plenty of them want to? Such a Grizzly bear etc?Because not having a weapon can result in a very bad day out just going for a walk in the countryside, a bike ride etc... and even having a picnic.
When you go on a school trip and your teachers are all armed to ensure the bears don't get you............

fking lunatics, far better for the world if they stick to shooting each other.
it's not simply about guns, it's about a liberal allowance for (almost) anythingHenners said:

Exactly. fking lunatics, far better for the world if they stick to shooting each other.
a founding pillar of the nation, really
the key is that many (but not all) such decisions are taken at the state level -- to fulfil what state citizens want
- so some states are more property rights / homeschooling / cars / guns / growth orientation / low tax
- and others are more community rights / shared public resources / urban farming / legal weed / income redistribution / high tax
- and others in between
just my two cents

The theme you paint occurs in quite a few counties, yet the USA seems to be the one where people can’t resist shooting unthreatening animals, colleagues, a class of school kids etc.
I have no issue with guns at all, or even most Americans, but does anyone here think the current position in the US is fit for purpose?
You could even suggest such a culture leads to the hunting escapades seen here... maybe.

Stuff
It does seem to be binary - very liberal on some things, strict on others. Take booze, for example.I find the firearms thing interesting as we banned handguns pretty quick, because of an event, the level of tolerance in the US is just much higher, it seems...
Earlier in the year didn’t they reach the point where more people had died in school shootings than soldiers in Iraq, or something. An interesting comparison.
Aaaanyway....
I prefer the pride of lions approach than the Apache, it’s more poetic.

this won't be to everyone's palate, and nor should it be; but I don't believe that it deserves ridicule

That's a rather myopic view, to say the least.

To simply look at this and conclude, in essence "stupid yanks with their guns" - is a myopic view to take, because people of varying nationalities enjoy shooting animals for fun.Henners said:

The yanks don't have a monopoly on this particular issue. Sure, they have what could be argued as being an unhealthy relationship with guns, and are experiencing all the fkery that comes with that.
Hence, it is myopic to ask the question on this issue "what is it with Americans and guns"

So, i guess Americans go around shooting anything that moves if it has the potential to harm humans rather than living in harmony with nature. I feel sorry for the bears, magnificent animals.Because not having a weapon can result in a very bad day out just going for a walk in the countryside, a bike ride etc... and even having a picnic.

the comparison that you make is essentially about the triumph of a liberal approach to that of a top-down managed approach -- and history has already weighed in on that

It just shows an odd balance in priorities, IMO.this won't be to everyone's palate, and nor should it be; but I don't believe that it deserves ridicule

It isn’t just this is it though, the yanks have shown it many many times, sadly. They do seem to be ‘winning the race’... especially for a developed nation.
